Job Description:
The Mechanical Systems Manager will coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure that projects are completed efficiently, safely, and within budget. The duties will include developing project plans, schedules, budgets, and resources allocation.
It will oversee City-wide mechanical systems and maintenance-related capital projects. This role will assist with the management of service contracts, supporting the implementation of construction and renovation projects, and ensuring HVAC systems are properly maintained and compliant with all codes and regulations.
This role will determine useful life, create spreadsheets to determine replacement timelines, costs, equipment specifications, and vendors. This role will hold vendors responsible through continual review.
Examples of Duties:
• Reports to the Deputy Director of Parks Facilities to assist with planning, coordination, and execution of maintenance and construction projects city-wide. • Manages and oversees the performance of HVAC mechanical systems and other city systems as needed. • Develops and reviews scopes of work for service and maintenance contracts and warranties. • Conducts regular inspections at city facilities and worksites to monitor contractor performance and ensure compliance with specifications. • Approves contractor progress payments and recommends modifications to schedules or contracts as needed. • Reviews construction and renovation plans for mechanical components and provides technical recommendations. • Defines project scopes, goals, schedules, and deliverables in collaboration with project managers. • Assists with contract negotiations, fee amendments, construction change orders, and project documentation. • Tracks project milestones using appropriate tools and ensures all work aligns with City, State, and Federal requirements. • Attends meetings and presents recommendations to boards, City staff, and external organizations. • Develops and maintains strong working relationships with internal departments, vendors, contractors, and community stakeholders. • Provides ongoing technical support for long-term maintenance needs and issues. • Participates in the Technical Review Committee process when necessary. • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, Facilities Management, or related field and 7-9 years of experience in mechanical systems management, construction, or contract administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Valid South Carolina Drivers License.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and have experience with database/operating systems such as Metasys or Tyler.
