PGS Worldwide is seeking a Mechanical Technician in Oxnard, CA for a one-year contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company.
The Mechanical Technician will support the fabrication, assembly, testing, and production of spacecraft components and mechanical assemblies in a manufacturing environment. This role partners with engineering and production teams to build, test, inspect, and improve mechanical assemblies while ensuring compliance with manufacturing procedures and quality standards.
Required Skills
U.S. citizenship required.
High school diploma or GED with at least two (2) years of additional education and/or related experience.
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.
Experience fabricating or assembling mechanical components and subassemblies.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and manufacturing instructions.
Familiarity with proper hand tool usage and safety practices.
Familiarity with torque concepts and techniques.
Experience using measurement tools such as calipers, rulers, and tape measures.
Ability to work within Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 40 pounds.
Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
Willingness to work flexible hours, overtime, and different shifts as manufacturing demands require.
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Skills
Experience in a composites or aerospace manufacturing environment.
Experience handling and managing composite materials.
Experience bonding composite structures to metallic fittings.
Experience maintaining adhesive material traceability, pot life, and out-time controls.
Familiarity with ISO standards and manufacturing compliance requirements.
Experience operating cranes, rigging equipment, forklifts, or similar manufacturing equipment.
Experience using electronic test equipment such as digital multimeters, DC power supplies, and source meters.
Ability to read blueprints and shop drawings.
Proficiency with basic shop arithmetic.
Strong organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills.
What You'll Do
Fabricate and assemble mechanical components and larger assemblies.
Set up and test prototype units and subassemblies under operational conditions.
Analyze test results and recommend modifications to components or test procedures.
Support manufacturing operations, including equipment setup, calibration, rework, and quality testing.
Collect and evaluate operating data to make production adjustments.
Assist with developing manufacturing methods and process improvements.
Handle composite materials and perform bonding and preparation of composite structures.
Measure fabricated hardware using precision measuring tools.
Maintain material traceability and adhesive usage documentation.
Read manufacturing and engineering drawings to complete assigned work.
Report production data and collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams.
Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Work Schedule / Shift
First Shift: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 3:30 PM
