Mechatronics Controls and Diagnostics Engineer

Time type: Full time | Shift: Wednesday–Saturday (every other Wednesday), 5pm–5am

On day one, you meet the team that keeps Symbotic’s warehouse automation running. By midweek, you’re in the control center watching adapters, vertical lifts, and robotic vehicles stream real-time data. An alert fires—you isolate the issue, coordinate with operations, and guide a safe recovery. By week’s end, your notes become a fix plan with engineering, and you train operators to prevent repeat incidents. That’s the rhythm: diagnose, communicate, improve.

Role Highlights

• Oversee operational health of automation equipment and respond to deviations with decisive troubleshooting.
• Own complex problem-solving—technical and operational—to protect throughput and quality.
• Turn technical analysis into clear guidance for site teams and customers; keep stakeholders aligned.
• Document incidents thoroughly; collaborate with engineering to close root causes and harden the system.
• Enable operators across the full stack: equipment, WMS workflows, and adjacent IT issues.
• Backfill essential Symbotic site positions when needed to stabilize operations.
• Advance continuous improvement and standardization initiatives focused on production outcomes.
• Model unwavering safety practices consistent with OSHA, Symbotic, and customer procedures.

Qualifications That Fit

• BS in Electrical/Software/Automation Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent experience.
• At least 2 years working with automated systems.
• Experience and willingness to deepen skills with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens), ABB robots, and software (SQL, Linux, Python).
• Hands-on background with robotics and electro-mechanical assembly, operation, and diagnostics.
• Composure under pressure and comfort with shifting priorities.
• Team-first mindset, eagerness to learn, and a strong sense of urgency.

Where You’ll Work

• Must hold a valid driver’s license; travel by car/air to client and customer locations as needed.
• Maintain a personal credit card and submit expenses bi-weekly for reimbursement to Symbotic.
• Frequent walking and reaching are part of the job.
• Operate at heights up to 45 feet and within restrictive 24-inch areas; expect standing, climbing/balancing, and stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling.
• Regularly lift or move up to 50 lbs.
• Follow lockout/tagout and fall-protection protocols at all times.
• PPE (hard hat, safety vest, steel-toe footwear, eye/ear protection, fall protection such as a safety harness) may be required at construction sites or per safety rules.
• Climb steep stairs and frequently use stairs to navigate multi-level automation.
• Work near high railings.
• Temperature exposure from 105° down to 32° F; sheltered from weather but not temperature changes.

Pay & Perks

Base pay range: $71,000.00 – $97,900.00, based on relevant skills, knowledge, and experience. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability, 401(k), PTO, and/or other benefits.
