MOBY Robotics builds subsea vehicles for the deep ocean, one of the least explored environments on Earth. Our systems are designed to operate reliably under extreme pressure, far from support, where there is no room for failure.
The role
You will be responsible for the mechatronic design of our subsea vehicle, from concept through sea trials. You will integrate mechanical, electrical, and software systems, and work closely with our engineering team to deliver hardware that performs in the field.
What you’ll do
Architect and integrate the vehicle’s electromechanical systems, from actuation and power to sensing and control
Take designs from sketch to CAD to prototype to something that survives the bench, the tank, and the sea
Work directly with software and autonomy engineers so the hardware and the code are designed together
Bring up new hardware, debug it, and find the real root cause
Run tests, interpret what they tell you, and iterate quickly
Go out on deployments and see your work operate at sea
Requirements
You might be a fit if
You have several years of experience building systems that had to work outside a lab (robotics, aerospace, automotive, marine, industrial, or similar)
You have strong engineering judgment: you can tell what matters from what doesn’t, and you know why something will fail before it does
You’re fluent across mechanical design, electronics, and embedded software, and deep in at least one of them
You’re comfortable with CAD and with hands-on fabrication and testing
You’ve owned a system end to end and can show what you built
You are driven by the problem and want a lot of ownership
Bonus points
Subsea or other extreme-environment experience (pressure, corrosion, sealing, field operations)
Experience with actuators, motor control, or power systems
Time spent at sea, in the field, or on competition teams
Why join
Real ownership and influence on technical direction
A hard, meaningful problem at the frontier of ocean exploration
A small team where your work ships and gets tested in the real world
To apply: Send your CV and a portfolio (required) showing systems you’ve designed and built, such as CAD, photos, test data, code, or project write-ups. Include a short note about the most difficult system you’ve built and what went wrong along the way.
