Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Correctional facility position requiring 2 years of recent acute care Med/Surg experience and prior correctional nursing experience.

Details

• Correctional facility setting within Cook County Health Services
• Night shift schedule, 3x12 hours, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• No block scheduling accommodations available
• Every other weekend requirement (2 weekends per month)
• Mandatory float facility; floating within scope required at facility's discretion, potentially to other units or up to 50 miles from home facility with as little as 2 hours' notice
• Uses Cerner charting system
• Scrub color required: Navy Blue

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required in hand at time of consideration (no pending licenses)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of recent acute care Med/Surg experience required
• Correctional nursing experience required
• Cerner charting experience required
• Skills required include isolation precautions/PPE, wound care/wound vac, oxygen administration, IV therapy/phlebotomy, peripheral line care, and cardiac monitoring/emergency response
• Two professional references required from supervisors within the past 2 years, with one from the most recent employer
• Proof of COVID vaccination required (booster not required)

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to Med/Surg patients within a correctional healthcare environment
• Participate in rapid response and code team activities as needed
• Team-based care model implemented when floated outside primary competency area
• RTO limited to 5 days maximum with no more than 2 consecutive days; no RTO permitted on weekends
• No RTO allowed on holidays or the day before/after a holiday
• Returning clinicians must undergo full recredentialing and orientation, regardless of contract break length
• Local candidates within 75 miles of the facility are accepted at a reduced rate
• First-time travelers are not considered for this position
