JOB REQUIREMENTS Education Must have Bachelor of Science degree and be a graduate from an approved school of Medical Technology. Must be registered as a medical technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists or be registry eligible and fulfills Federal Register section 493.1495 personnel requirements. Experience Training accomplished in an approved school of medical technology desirable. Previous experience in a clinical laboratory desirable. Physical This is a safety sensitive position. Please see the St. Bernards Substance Abuse Policy for further information. Normal hospital environment. Close eye work. Hearing within normal range. Exposure to biological and mechanical hazards. Operates various lab analyzers, centrifuges, microscopes, lab refrigerators and freezers, alarm systems, incubators, rotators, water baths, safety hoods, incinerators, PCs, computer terminals and printer, telephone. Frequent standing and walking. Occasional sitting and bending. Lifting, carrying, pushing / pulling up to 50 lbs. JOB SUMMARY Medical technologist will perform all moderate and high complexity testing under the authorization of the laboratory medical director, perform testing as assigned with responsibilities for preanalytic, analytic, and postanalytic phases of testing to include proper patient identification, specimen collection, handling, performance and reporting of each test method, maintenance, and troubleshooting as applicable; performance of proficiency testing; understanding of reagent stability and storage; awareness of factors or limitations that influence testing results; assessment and verification of validity of patient test results through the performance and evaluation of quality control sample values; and documentation of all quality control and patient testing, maintenance, and corrective action activities. Instruct new technologist, technicians, and lab assistants and aid in the teaching program of MT and MLT students. Assist with trouble-shooting instruments as appropriate. Assist in requisitioning necessary supplies, reagents, and blood components.
