Position Title

Media/ (Multiple disciplines), Adjunct Faculty Member

Job Summary

Job Summary

We seek an adjunct faculty member with expertise across a range of media disciplines including photography (analog and digital processes), film/video production and editing, and audio recording and production. The ideal candidate will be familiar with Evergreen's team-teaching coordinated studies model and will have the knowledge and flexibility to teach students with a variety of backgrounds and interests. They will have demonstrated experience utilizing media as a tool in collaborative modes of inquiry, education and problem-solving, and be able to connect the topic of media to different disciplines in art, science, and technology.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate deep engagement in teaching media and in media production, both teaching solo and in a teaching-team. Experience in teaching, as well as a commitment to working with diverse and underserved student populations and to working across significant differences (race, class, gender, sexual orientation, etc.) are also required. We are particularly interested in candidates committed to exploring how media can be used to further student collaboration and expand access to media practices.

Job Expectations

The faculty will teach in (i) fall quarter, the Pre-Orientation course, The 5-Day Media Challenge which will be a 2-credit, in-person intensive co-taught with a media faculty member Sept. 19-23, (ii) in winter quarter, a 2-credit Media Foundations course, and (iii) in spring quarter, repeat the same 2-credit Media Foundations course. Each of these courses will be offered in-person on Evergreen's Olympia campus and will require coordination with Evergreen's media production facilities including Photoland, Electronic Media, and Media Loan, as well as ability to gain proficiency with equipment inventory and lab configurations at The Evergreen State College. The Pre-Orientation course will be intensively taught Sept 19-23, 2026, and the winter and spring Media Foundations courses will be offered in-person Mondays 1-3pm (with asynchronous teaching/assessment on holidays), during the respective quarters (for exact dates please see the Academic Calendar).

During Pre-Orientation, faculty pairs are together expected to evaluate 40 students (~20 students/faculty), and during the regular academic year, faculty are responsible for 25 students/faculty. This arrangement allows for in-depth, interdisciplinary and experiential learning, and the building of strong learning communities. Ideally faculty would support in advising students as they reflect on their learning process, develop a pathway of study, and formulate their own areas of concentration. Our teaching is student-centered, which means we are interested in helping students develop strong skills in critical thinking, problem solving, communication and collaborative work. Because over 80% of our students come from underserved and marginalized groups, we are particularly invested in approaches to teaching that emphasize diversity and equity, that provide opportunities for challenge and growth, and that foster a learning environment where all are welcome and all can learn from each other. A complete list of faculty responsibilities can be found in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (follow the Collective Bargaining Agreement link at https://www.evergreen.edu/offices-services/faculty-hiring/benefits).
