MEDIA PRODUCTION/COMMUNICATIONS SUPPORT - STAFF ASSISTANT (EXTRA HELP)

Orange County Registrar of Voters (ROV) will begin accepting applications for the Media Production/Communications Support -Staff Assistant (Extra Help) position on Friday, August 21, 2026, this recruitment will be posted for a minimum of five (5) business days and will remain open on a continuous basis until the needs of the Agency are met. Qualified applicants are encouraged to apply immediately. The first review of applications will be done on or about Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

These are Extra Help temporary/seasonal positions (these are NOT permanent positions). These positions will often require overtime, both in the evenings and on weekends.

REGISTRAR OF VOTERS

The Registrar of Voters, a nationally recognized and award-winning agency, is responsible for conducting elections, verifying petitions and maintaining voter records in the County of Orange, the fifth largest voting jurisdiction in the United States with 1.9 million active registered voters. The department receives funding from the Countys General Fund and periodic reimbursement from the federal government, the State of California and local jurisdictions. The Registrar of Voters staff includes 54 full-time employees, and numerous extra help employees who support various election related positions representing the broad spectrum of Orange Countys population. The department is responsible for all components of election management.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Registrar of Voters is seeking to fill Media Production/Communications Support - Staff Assistant (Extra Help) vacancy to support the Outreach Department for the upcoming November 2026 Election. This position will work directly with the Public Information Officer and assist with writing, proofreading and editing of content, as well as supporting videography, photography, graphic design and print production materials such as brochures and newsletters. The position will also help maintain the agencys website, visual communications, and social media channels.

Duties include, but not limited to;

  • Coordinating special projects and community outreach
  • Creating and updating resource material
  • Interacting with other governmental and community-based organizations
  • Assisting with video production projects including pre-production setup, lighting, and other post-production tasks using Canva, Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop etc.
  • Assist with videotaping and video editing, using Adobe Premiere and Apple iMovie software
  • Assist in creating collateral and graphic materials with InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop
  • Assist in responding to a variety of public information related inquiries and requests
  • Assisting in the preparation and distribution of press releases
  • Providing support with developing, monitoring and updating ROV website and social media content
  • Designs and distributes a wide range of internal and external information through the use of digital and print publications, in addition to social media.
  • Assist in the coordination, set up, and presentation during press-related events
  • Conduct research, gather information, and draft content of agency events and activities
  • Assist in the development and updating of media lists and other databases
  • Participate in meetings, schedule and conduct presentations, assist with day-to-day administrative duties, and other duties as assigned

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES

In addition to the duties listed in this bulletin, the ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in public relations, media relations, and community outreach; the ability to manage a wide range of tasks; work effectively both independently and as part of a team; perform well in a fast-paced environment while handling multiple assignments simultaneously; and be willing to work overtime with little to no prior notice. Public sector or elections experience is desirable.

Additional experience includes excellent written and oral communication skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and mac OS; strong knowledge of social media platforms such as Instagram, X, YouTube and Facebook; and experience developing and sharing videos on social media. Candidates should be detail oriented, reliable, and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to take direction well and complete assignments under tight deadlines. Computer proficiency is required, including familiarity with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and experience with PC-based graphic design and video editing software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, iMovie, Adobe Premiere, and mac OS software and programs.

HTML and GovDelivery experience is desirable.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates considered for this position will be required to successfully pass a background check consisting of employment history, professional references, and criminal check. Possession of a valid California drivers' license, Class C, and a clean driving record while employed in this classification might be required by the date of appointment. A driving records check consisting of a Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) check will be conducted to verify the clean driving record.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS

The Registrar of Voters Administrative Services Department will screen all application materials to identify qualified candidates. After screening, qualified candidates will be referred to the next step and notified of all further procedures applicable to their status in the competition.

Applications and supplemental responses will be screened for qualifications that are highly desirable and most needed to successfully perform the duties of this job. Only those applicants that meet the qualifications as listed in the job bulletin will be referred to the next step.

Online Assessment (Un-proctored, Weighted 100%)

Applicants who meet desirable qualifications will be invited to participate in one or more job-related assessments. Applicants will be notified of their test date and access code, if applicable. Only the most qualified candidates will move forward to the next step in the recruitment process or will be placed on the eligible list.

Training and Experience Evaluation (Weighted 100%):

As part of the selection process, applicants must submit a thorough application, responses to supplemental questions and any other requested documents, (e.g., licensures, transcripts, etc.) describing their specific work experience as it relates to this opportunity. Eligible List

Once all assessments have been completed, the Registrar of Voters Administrative Services Department will establish an eligible list of candidates. Candidates placed on the eligible list may be referred to a selection interview to be considered for present and future extra help vacancies.

Based on the Departments needs, the selection procedure listed above may be modified. All candidates will be notified of any changes in the selection procedure.
