Millis Public Schools is seeking a full-time Media Specialist Paraprofessional to run the elementary school Learning Commons. The ideal candidate will foster a welcoming space that promotes a love of reading and encourages student engagement in grades K-5. Key Responsibilities Library Operations Check books and materials in and out Shelve returned items and maintain accurate shelf order Process new books and materials; perform minor book repairs Assist with weeding outdated or irrelevant materials Help with periodic and annual inventory Support overdue notices and reserve collections
Student and Instructional Support Assist students in locating books and using library tools Supervise students to maintain a safe, respectful environment Track attendance and monitor student behavior
Promotional and Administrative Support Help organize library displays and bulletin boards Promote literacy events and programs Assist in developing promotional materials Provide input on the selection of new resources Organize two book fairs per year Preferred Experience & Skills Experience with Follett Destiny Library Management Software Familiarity with elementary school learners Background in libraries, education, or related fields Minimum Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred Strong communication skills (written and verbal) Attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Comfortable assisting students with a range of learning and life skills needs Ability to support positive behavior and enforce school expectations Prior experience in schools or with students with disabilities is a plus Physical Working Conditions Primarily school-based, in a library setting Involves walking, standing, stooping, and lifting up to 25 pounds Additional Notes Candidates with experience supporting students with a range of academic and personal needs are strongly encouraged to apply Other related duties as assigned by the school principal
