Job Description
The Media Specialist supports Valley Health's external communications efforts through the execution of high-quality written content and day to day communications support. This role focuses on drafting, editing, and producing public-facing messaging aligned with an editorial calendar, brand standards, and media relations plans, while building foundational skills in healthcare communications.
This position is primarily office-based with occasional travel to Valley Health facilities or community events. Hybrid work options may be available based on departmental needs and role responsibilities.
Responsibilities and Duties
Draft and edit public relations materials for a variety of communications, including announcements, talking points, web content, social media posts, and marketing materials.
Support storytelling initiatives by gathering information, drafting content, and coordinating approvals under the guidance of more senior team members.
Assist with formatting, proofreading, and posting content to external platforms.
Maintain accuracy, tone, and brand consistency across all assigned communications.
Track basic performance metrics and compile reports for review by coordinators or business partners.
Manage assigned tasks and deadlines using established workflows.
Learn Valley Health's communication standards, tools, and processes, applying feedback to improve quality and efficiency over time.
Provide logistical and administrative support for broader communications initiatives as needed.
Education
Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, English, or a related field required.
Experience
Zero (0) to two (2) years of professional experience in communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field required.
Internship or healthcare experience is a plus, not required.
Qualifications
Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to write clearly, concisely, and accurately for diverse audiences.
Excellent editing and proofreading skills with attention to detail.
Familiarity with AP Style preferred.
Ability to contribute to multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across internal teams.
Working knowledge of digital communication tools, including content management systems, social media platforms, and Microsoft Office applications.
Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
