Responsibilities:

• Perform accurate medical coding using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems for patient records and claims
• Review and abstract clinical documentation to assign appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and VISN 21 coding guidelines and regulations
• Collaborate with clinical staff and physicians to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies
• Support medical billing processes by providing properly coded records for claims submission
• Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold HIPAA compliance standards at all times
• Audit coded records for accuracy and completeness, identifying areas for improvement

Requirements:

• Certified Medical Coder (CPC, CCS, or RHIA) preferred
• Proficiency in ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS Level II coding
• Prior experience in medical coding within a VA, federal, or VISN healthcare setting is a plus
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and clinical documentation standards
• Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software
• Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills
• Ability to obtain and maintain required federal security clearance or background check
