Medical Assistant-Certified, Primary Care: This 1.0 FTE/Full-time position is scheduled to work 10-HR day shifts.

Compensation: Medical Assistant-Certified (Nationally Certified): Non-exempt, $26.56/HR—$37.75/HR. Placement within this range is based on years of applicable experience.

ADDITIONAL COMPENSATION: Student Loan Repayment Assistance OR a $5,000 Sign-on Bonus; Conditions apply.

Medical Assistant (Washington State Certified only): Non-exempt, $24.45/HR—$34.92

Job Summary:

Serves as an integral member of the clinic team; efficiently performs back office duties including effectively monitoring and managing the flow of patients, greeting and rooming patients, documenting patient histories, preparing exam rooms, and assisting with examinations and procedures. Works in close partnership with and under the direction of a physician/provider.

Job Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Monitors and manages the flow of patients to maximize physician’s time, reduce delays, and facilitate a positive patient experience.
2. Takes initial patient history, accurately documents vital signs and complaints in the patient’s medical record.
3. Prepares the patient and room for examination or procedure by the physician.
4. Assists the physician with examinations and procedures. Performs phlebotomy and necessary laboratory testing; or prepares specimens and orders outside laboratory testing. Performs radiological exams and EKG procedures, as ordered by the physician.
5. Cleans the patient's room after the visit and after the procedure. Scrubs, rinses, and places used instruments in the disinfectant tray after each patient. Properly autoclave instruments or prepare them to be autoclaved at the hospital.
6. Calls or faxes in prescriptions and handles physician’s call back on patient test results as directed.
7. Monitors and maintains equipment in good working order. Maintains medical stock, to include obtaining purchase order numbers; and maintains drug and medical supply inventory.
8. Completes all tasks and documentation in an accurate and timely manner.
9. Coordinates population health activities as needed, including wellness visits, care gap reporting, and screenings.
10. Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

1. One year of experience working in a physician’s office, preferred.

Required Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:

1. State of Washington certification as Medical Assistant Certification required.
2. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, or within 180 days of hire.

Medical Assistants without a national certification remain eligible for 48410; Additional requirements for Medical Assistant-Certified 48409 include:

1. Current State of Washington Medical Assistant Certification, (CM)
2. Current medical assistant certification through one of the following:
3. American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
4. American Medical Technologists (AMT)
5. National Health Career Association (NHA)
6. National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Working knowledge of medical assistant functions, clinical standards, and clinical practices and procedures.
2. Ability to distinguish emergency patient situations.
3. Knowledge and understanding of age-related care as needed for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients with the ability to provide patient care that is appropriate to the age and development status of the patient.
4. Knowledge of medical terminology and medical ethics
5. Strong communication skills: ability to communicate verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences. Ability to listen actively and respond to patients and coworkers in a timely, appropriate manner both verbally and non-verbally.
6. Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with physicians, coworkers, patients, and families. Ability to present a professional, caring image and demeanor to patients and families.
7. Ability to exercise good judgment, use discretion and maintain the confidentiality of privileged information and records.
8. Ability to accept responsibility, work independently, prioritize and manage time and tasks effectively. Ability to meet deadlines and work efficiently under pressure.
9. Adaptability: ability to learn, understand, and navigate work processes, terminology, and computer software systems.
10. Ability to read, understand and interpret information from a variety of sources and to understand and follow moderately complex instructions.
11. Ability to perform basic math functions.
