Position Description
A Certified Medical Assistant supports providers by performing both clinical and administrative duties in compliance with New Jersey regulations.
Roles Responsibilities
• Preparing patients for examinations by escorting them to exam rooms, confirming patient information, and reviewing chief complaints
• Measuring and documenting vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations, height, weight, and BMI
• Updating and maintaining accurate patient medical histories in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system
• Assisting physicians and other healthcare providers during exams and minor procedures
• Administering injections and immunizations as delegated and permitted under New Jersey scope-of-practice guidelines
• Performing phlebotomy and collecting specimens (blood, urine, swabs) for laboratory testing
• Conducting EKGs and other basic diagnostic procedures
• Removing sutures, changing dressings, and performing wound care as directed
• Educating patients on medications, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions
• Cleaning, disinfecting, and restocking exam rooms and ensuring proper sterilization of medical instruments
• Ensuring compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control standards
• Scheduling appointments and managing provider calendars
• Answering phones and addressing patient inquiries professionally
• Verifying insurance information and assisting with referrals and authorizations
• Processing prescription refill requests under provider supervision
• Coordinating communication with laboratories, pharmacies, and external providers
Skills
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program
• Active Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential
• Knowledge of New Jersey medical assistant scope-of-practice regulations
• Experience in a clinical or ambulatory healthcare setting (preferred)
• Proficiency with EHR systems and medical documentation
• Strong understanding of medical terminology
• Current CPR/BLS certification
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities
• Attention to detail and accuracy in clinical documentation
• Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
• Experience in internal medicine
• Bilingual
