Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Summary

The Department of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a competent level Medical Assistant who is proficient in delivering patient care in the ambulatory care setting and providing support to Live Answer. Performs patient care responsibilities and provides clerical/administrative support in a clinical setting. Provides guidance to entry level Medical Assistants.

This position is an outpatient position located at the Woodlands Campus with a general work schedule of Monday - Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.

Job Duties

  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, venipuncture (blood draws), collect specimens, EKGs/ECGs, and POCTs.
  • Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation and enters information in the electronic medical record.
  • Notes the primary complaint/reason for patient's visit.
  • Sets up instruments and equipment for Physician.
  • Assist with procedures as needed.
  • Administer medication under direction / order of a supervising Physician.
  • Instructs Patients on general care and medical procedures.
  • Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments.
  • Conduct patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups.
  • Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities such as filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Take inventory of clinic supplies and order supplies as needed.
  • Sorts and distributes clinic mail and medical records to the appropriate clinic personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, AAH, AAMP, or NPS). Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with GI patient care, procedure scheduling, including pre-procedure/post-procedure education and coordination of diagnostic testing

  • Familiarity with GI terminology, conditions, medications, and treatment plan.

  • Experience in a high-volume specialty practice.

  • Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as EPIC, medication reconciliation, clinical documentation, and patient communication.

  • Experience with referrals, prior authorizations, insurance verification, and scheduling.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate patient care while working efficiently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

  • Bilingual in Spanish.

Other

Physical Risks: Potential exposures to blood borne pathogens (blood &/or other potentially infectious materials), drugs, chemicals, radiation, and physical hazards found in patient clinics, hospitals and/or laboratory work environments and in working directly with patients and other employees. Initial Blood borne Pathogens Training is required, and a Blood borne Pathogens Refresher Training must be taken annually.

Support needed may be in the form of clinical tasks, triaging calls, completing faxes or medical forms, completing prior authorizations, various point of care testing (EKG, urine dip stick, specimen collection, etc), and assisting providers in minor in office procedures.

Work Authorization Requirement:
