Job Description:
The Medical Assistant supports physicians with patient examination, treatment, clinical procedures, patient flow, documentation, scheduling, and other administrative and clinical duties. The Medical Assistant will primarily work at the Liberty office and may provide support at other physician offices, including Urology and Breast Oncology, as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist physicians with patient examinations, treatments, and routine clinical procedures.
Maintain efficient patient flow throughout clinic hours.
Obtain and document vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respirations, height, and weight.
Update medical, social, and family history and reconcile medication lists at each visit.
Document patient information accurately in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Prepare patient charts by scanning, abstracting, and reviewing medical records, diagnostic results, and hospital reports.
Obtain necessary medical information from outside facilities through websites, phone calls, and other resources.
Refill and pre-authorize medications by coordinating with patients, pharmacies, and insurance companies.
Maintain records of patient medication samples and properly dispose of expired medications.
Prepare and maintain clean, fully stocked examination and treatment rooms.
Order and maintain medical supplies and assist with patient assistance paperwork.
Respond to patient calls and MyChart messages as needed.
Work assigned inboxes, daily workflow logs, and EMR/Practice Management work queues.
Answer incoming calls, schedule appointments, and check patients in and out.
Complete pre-certifications for prescriptions, procedures, and surgeries as needed.
Operate EKG, cardiac monitors, and other equipment for routine diagnostic testing.
Perform clinical duties such as vaccinations, phlebotomy, cast removal, and other procedures as assigned.
Assist with training new employees when requested.
Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, legal, safety, infection control, and organizational requirements.
Support quality measures and patient experience initiatives.
Travel to other physician offices as requested or needed.
Required Experience:
Clinical Medical Assistant experience required.
Experience working in a patient-facing healthcare/clinical environment.
Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, EMR, and scheduling systems.
Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to work respectfully and effectively with patients, physicians, visitors, coworkers, and other healthcare representatives.
Ability and willingness to travel between physician offices as needed.
Preferred Experience:
2–5 years of Medical Assistant or related healthcare experience.
Experience in Primary Care, Specialty Care, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or other clinical settings.
Experience performing phlebotomy, EKGs, suture removal, splinting, cast removal, vaccinations, or similar clinical procedures.
Previous experience working with EMR work queues and clinical workflows.
Education:
Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Preferred:
Associate Degree.
Required Certifications & Licensure:
BLS Certification.
Preferred Certifications & Licensure:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification from a recognized certifying body.
