Job Summary

The Medical Assistant Lead, Clinics provides advanced clinical support and assists with complex patient care tasks while ensuring efficient workflow in the clinic setting. This role serves as a key resource for medical assistants and providers, handling higher-level responsibilities such as specialized procedures, compliance monitoring, and training support. The Medical Assistant Lead helps maintain clinic operations by troubleshooting workflow challenges, ensuring adherence to policies, and supporting process improvements while continuing to provide direct patient care.

Essential Functions

  • Performs all standard medical assistant duties, including obtaining vital signs, administering medications per scope of practice, performing point-of-care testing, collecting lab specimens, and assisting with procedures.
  • Serves as a resource for medical assistants and providers, assisting with complex cases, answering procedural questions, and ensuring compliance with clinical protocols.
  • Supports specialized procedures or patient populations as required by the clinic, handling more advanced clinical tasks with greater independence.
  • Ensures accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters in the electronic health record (EHR), reinforcing best practices for documentation and coding accuracy.
  • Assists with training and onboarding new medical assistants by demonstrating procedures, reinforcing workflow processes, and ensuring adherence to policies.
  • Monitors compliance with infection control, patient safety, and regulatory standards, identifying and addressing potential concerns.
  • Collaborates with providers and clinical staff to troubleshoot operational challenges and enhance clinic efficiency.
  • Oversees supply management, ensuring appropriate stock levels of medical equipment and coordinating replenishment as needed.
  • Serves as a point of contact for operational issues, working with clinic leadership to implement workflow improvements and resolve patient flow concerns.
  • Provides guidance on complex scheduling needs, patient follow-ups, and coordination of care, ensuring smooth clinic operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of experience as a Medical Assistant, with demonstrated proficiency in complex clinical tasks required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of clinical workflows, medical procedures, and outpatient clinic operations.
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems and documentation best practices.
  • Strong understanding of infection control, patient safety, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to assist with training and provide guidance on complex clinical processes.
  • Problem-solving skills to identify workflow inefficiencies and propose improvements.
  • Strong attention to detail in patient care, documentation, and compliance monitoring.
  • Effective communication skills to interact with providers, patients, and clinic staff.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)-AAMA required or
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)-NCTT required or
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)-American Medical Technologists required
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support required
