Pay Rate: $18/hr - $22/hr

Summary:

Shift Timings: 9 AM - 5:00 PM

Responsibilities:

  • Perform venipuncture and/or EKGs, check schedules, and organize patient flow.
  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure room, assist with walking, transferring, and dressing.
  • Collect and process specimens and perform point of care testing.
  • Assist physicians with various procedures, take vital signs, and relay instructions to patients and families.
  • Answer calls and provide pertinent information.
  • Send and receive patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately.
  • Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepare prescription refill requests.
  • Inventory, order, or restock medical supplies as applicable.
  • Set up examination room and instruments according to proper sterilization techniques.
  • Maintain logging system for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, crash cart, etc.
  • Check expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies, disposing appropriately per institution policy.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.
  • Assist in the maintenance of medical charts (filing, Op Reports, test results, home care forms).
  • Schedule surgeries/procedures or work with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients.
  • Perform proficient phlebotomy duties as required.
  • Perform appointment scheduling and registration for patients, updating patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Check, verify, and update insurance information utilizing internal or web sources.
  • Perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
  • Medical Assistant certificate from an approved school.
  • BLS certification – Required Issuing Authority: AHA.

Preferred Skills:

  • Computer skills, basic proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural and language-deficit patients.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette.
  • Proficient in medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical record or billing systems preferred.
  • Adaptability to a growing and changing environment.
