Description

Position Summary
The Medical Assistant (MA) provides clinical and administrative support to ensure efficient clinic operations and exceptional patient care. This role is responsible for patient triage, vital signs, urine drug screen collection, referrals, EMR documentation, schedule review, and assisting with patient flow. The MA may also support front office operations, including patient check-in and check-out, as needed.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Clinical Support

  • Triage patients and obtain medical histories, medication lists, and allergies.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, including pain scores.
  • Prepare exam and procedure rooms.
  • Assist providers with examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Collect, document, and process urine drug screen specimens according to clinic protocols.
  • Provide patient education and communicate provider instructions as directed.
  • Maintain exam room supplies and equipment.
  • Adhere to OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and clinic policies

Documentation & Care Coordination
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EMR.
  • Review, upload, and organize medical records, imaging, and test results.
  • Process provider orders and patient communications.
  • Coordinate referrals and obtain authorizations as needed.
  • Track referral completion and maintain supporting documentation

Schedule & Patient Flow Management
  • Review daily schedules to ensure charts, records, and authorizations are complete.
  • Assist with appointment scheduling and follow-up appointments.
  • Manage patient messages, phone calls, and inquiries promptly.
  • Support efficient patient flow throughout the clinic
Front Office Support (As Needed)
  • Assist with patient check-in and check-out.
  • Verify demographics, insurance, and required paperwork.
  • Collect copays and schedule follow-up appointments.
  • Deliver excellent customer service to patients and visitors.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Minimum six months of clinical experience required; one year preferred.
  • Pain management, orthopedics, spine, or primary care experience preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and medical terminology

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform routine clinical duties throughout the workday.
  • Ability to operate standard office and medical equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds

Work Environment
  • Fast-paced outpatient pain management clinic.
  • Frequent interaction with patients experiencing acute and chronic pain.
  • Exposure to biological specimens and bodily fluids in accordance with standard safety precautions.
  • Requires professionalism, teamwork, flexibility, and a patient-centered approach.
