Medical Assistant (MA)– Correctional Facility

Duties & Responsibilities

Clinical Support & Patient Care

  • Provider Assistance: Assist healthcare providers during patient examinations, specialized treatments, and clinical procedures.

  • Vitals & Intake: Obtain and meticulously document patient vital signs, medical histories, and initial health information during intake screenings and chronic care clinics.

  • Specimen & Testing: Perform accurate laboratory specimen collection, point-of-care testing, and other clinical tasks within your professional scope of practice.

  • Medication Support: Safely administer routine medications and treatments as permitted by state regulations and facility policies.

  • Emergency Readiness: Respond calmly and appropriately to medical emergencies, assisting the broader healthcare staff during urgent situations.

  • Area Sanitation: Prepare, organize, and sanitize examination and treatment areas, strictly enforcing infection control and health guidelines.

  • Supply Chain Stewardship: Monitor, inventory, and stock vital medical supplies, clinical equipment, and pharmaceuticals.

  • Health Record Management: Maintain accurate, thorough, and timely medical records within electronic and paper health record systems (EHR/EMR).

  • Care Coordination: Schedule patient appointments and efficiently coordinate healthcare services as directed by nursing leadership.

  • Security & Boundary Management: Adhere uncompromisedly to all facility safety and security protocols while maintaining patient confidentiality under HIPAA regulations and establishing firm professional boundaries.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Training: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.

  • Credentials: Current Medical Assistant certification or registration (CMA or RMA) as required by state regulations.

  • Life Support: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Experience Baseline: Minimum of one (1) year of active clinical experience as a Medical Assistant.

  • Physical Capability: Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 25 pounds, and move quickly throughout the facility to respond to emergency situations.

Desired Qualifications

  • Specialized Settings: Prior experience working in public health, community clinics, behavioral health, or correctional healthcare environments.

  • Tech-Savvy: Direct, hands-on experience utilizing Electronic Medical Record (EMR/EHR) software platforms.

  • Core Competencies: Strong knowledge of medical terminology, exceptional organizational skills, and a proven ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced setting.

Location and Work Type

  • Work Type: Full-Time Contract Position .

  • Work Setting: On-site, structured correctional facility environment.

  • Schedule: An exceptional lifestyle schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (Enjoy your weekends and evenings off!).
