    New Directions Northwest is seeking a compassionate and dependable Medical Assistant (MA) to join our Recovery Village Medical Detox & Crisis Respite team in Baker City, Oregon.

    As a Medical Assistant at Recovery Village, you'll work closely with Registered Nurses, prescribers, behavioral health clinicians, and other members of an interdisciplinary team serving individuals receiving medical detoxification and crisis respite services.

    Position Summary

    The Medical Assistant supports Registered Nurses and prescribers in providing medical care to individuals receiving detoxification and crisis respite services.

    Responsibilities include assisting with client admissions and intakes, obtaining vital signs and health information, supporting medication-related activities, monitoring client wellbeing, maintaining accurate documentation, and helping the clinical team provide safe, compassionate, trauma-informed care.

    Essential Responsibilities

    The Medical Assistant will:

    • Assist RNs with admissions and intakes, including collecting vital signs, health histories, and withdrawal information.
    • Support nursing staff in monitoring clients receiving detoxification and crisis respite services.
    • Observe clients for signs of medical distress, withdrawal symptoms, or behavioral escalation and promptly communicate concerns to the RN or prescriber.
    • Assist RNs with medication preparation and administration in accordance with agency policy and applicable regulations.
    • Maintain accurate Medication Administration Records (MARs).
    • Support controlled-substance counting and reconciliation with licensed staff.
    • Document vital signs, observations, and medication-support activities in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
    • Maintain strict confidentiality of protected health information.
    • Participate in shift handoffs and communicate effectively with nursing staff, prescribers, behavioral health clinicians, and case managers.
    • Coordinate with external providers, pharmacies, and referral sources as directed.
    • Assist during medical or psychiatric emergencies in accordance with facility protocols.
    • Support infection-control, sanitation, PPE, and facility-safety practices.
    • Help maintain a professional, respectful, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed treatment environment.
    • Assist with client transportation to medical appointments, clinics, or laboratory services when needed.
    • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and required training.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Current Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) from an accredited program.
    • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
    • Minimum of one year of clinical experience, preferably in behavioral health, detoxification, or a medical-care setting.
    • Current valid Oregon driver's license and acceptable driving record.
    • Ability to successfully complete the required background check.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology, basic pharmacology, and infection-control practices.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to complete accurate and timely clinical documentation.
    • Ability to remain professional and composed in fast-paced or crisis situations.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in withdrawal management or crisis stabilization.
    • Familiarity with ASAM Criteria and detoxification protocols.
    • Behavioral health experience.
    • Experience using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems.

    Work Environment

    Recovery Village operates in a 24/7 medical detoxification and crisis respite environment.

    This position involves working with individuals who may be experiencing withdrawal, psychiatric crisis, or co-occurring behavioral health conditions. The position requires standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.

    Evening, weekend, or holiday shifts may be required.
