Job Description:

Medical Assistant / Medical Secretary - Neurology

Location

Cambridge, Massachusetts

Schedule

Full-Time

• Monday through Friday
• 8:45 a.m.-5:15 p.m.
• Some ability to begin earlier with advance notice may be needed for coverage
• No regularly scheduled weekends or holidays

About the Role

Join a collaborative outpatient Neurology and Sleep Medicine practice in a dual role supporting both patient care and front-desk operations.

You will room patients, obtain vital signs, complete medication reconciliation, support patient flow, and assist with scheduling, check-in, phones, Epic work queues, and prior authorizations. This position does not perform phlebotomy, injections, EKGs, or office procedures.

What You'll Do

Medical Assistant Responsibilities

• Welcome and room patients for Neurology and Sleep Medicine appointments
• Obtain and document blood pressure, height, weight, and other vital signs
• Review and update medication and allergy information
• Complete medication reconciliation for each patient
• Ask required screening questions, including fall-risk and health history questions
• Communicate the reason for the visit, abnormal vital signs, and relevant patient information to the provider
• Help manage patient flow and communicate delays
• Maintain clean, stocked, and organized exam rooms
• Support medication and radiology prior authorization processes
• Document completed work accurately in Epic

Medical Secretary Responsibilities

• Check patients in and out
• Schedule appointments and coordinate follow-up care
• Answer incoming telephone calls and route messages
• Work within Epic In Basket and assigned work queues
• Verify and update patient demographic and insurance information
• Communicate professionally with patients, families, providers, and colleagues
• Maintain patient confidentiality
• Assist with coverage in other specialty practices when needed

Who You'll Support

The practice supports a growing team of physicians and nurse practitioners and may serve approximately 30-60 patients per day, depending on the clinic schedule.

The department provides general Neurology and Sleep Medicine care, including support for patients experiencing cognitive disorders, neuropathy, numbness, tingling, sleep concerns, and other neurological conditions.

Required Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor''s degree in Health Science preferred. License Medical Assistant Certificate preferred., or Registration Certified Nursing Assistant preferred., or Certificate 1 EMT Basic License preferred., or Certificate 2 Phlebotomy Certificate preferred.
• 0-1 years related work experience required.
• Ability to navigate at a basic level within web-based applications.

Physical Requirements

Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and or up to 20 pounds of force frequently. Job is physical in nature and employee needs to stand and/or move around through the majority of their shift.

This job requires frequent sitting, walking, standing, bending neck, bending waist, twisting neck, twisting waist, Power Grasping using both hands, Fine Manipulation using both hands, Pushing/Pulling using both hands, Keyboard use, Reaching-below shoulder height, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 10 lbs.There may be occasional Reaching-above shoulder height, Pushing items weighing up to 10 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to 25 lbs.Rarely there may be Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 25 lbs, Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 50 lbs, Pushing items weighing up to 50 lbs, Push a wheelchair or wheeled bed containing a patient weighing up to 250 pounds, with assistance.

Pay Range:

$21.00 - $28.26

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
