Step into a multifaceted clinical role where you serve as the essential link between patients and their healthcare providers. As a Medical Assistant, you are the primary engine of the patient visit, responsible for everything from initial screening and vitals to assisting with complex procedures. This position requires a "self-starter" mentality and a high degree of critical thinking to manage patient histories, medication administration, and emergency responses. Beyond the exam room, you will act as a health advocate and liaison, managing digital communications, coordinating referrals, and ensuring the clinical environment meets the highest standards of safety and efficiency.
Key Duties:
Clinical Patient Care: Escort patients to rooms, obtain vital signs, and record detailed patient histories in the EHR.
Procedural Support: Set up for and assist with examinations, treatments, and procedures. Perform electrocardiography, respiratory testing, and CLIA-waived tests.
Medication & Immunization: Prepare and administer oral and parenteral medications and immunizations following the "six rights" of administration.
Laboratory & Phlebotomy: Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures; collect and process specimens according to lab protocols.
Administrative Excellence: Manage provider orders for medications, radiology, and labs. Handle insurance pre-authorizations, referrals, and appointment scheduling.
Patient Communication: Actively monitor and respond to patient requests via MyChart, telephone encounters, and In-Basket messages.
Health Education: Educate patients on disease prevention, health maintenance, and compliance with treatment plans as directed by the physician.
Safety & Maintenance: Apply sterile techniques, clean equipment, and maintain inventory levels in treatment rooms while adhering to biohazardous disposal protocols.
Experience: Previous experience in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine is required.
Certification: Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
Soft Skills: Must be a dependable self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Technical Proficiency: Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and digital patient portals.
Professional Credential: Medical Assistant (MA) Certification is highly preferred.
Competency: Demonstrated strength in phlebotomy and aseptic technique.
Advocacy: Proven ability to function as a healthcare advocate to meet individual patient needs and identify community resources.
