Job Description
Pay Rate: $22 per hour
Summary:
- Day shift, Schedule will vary
Responsibilities:
- Perform venipuncture and/or EKGs, check schedules, and organize patient flow.
- Accompany patients to exam/procedure room, assist with walking, transferring, and dressing.
- Collect and process specimens and point of care testing, prepare for exam.
- Assist physicians with various procedures, take vital signs, and relay instructions to patients and families.
- Answer calls and provide pertinent information.
- Send and receive patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, and manage charts.
- Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepare prescription refill requests.
- Inventory, order, or re-stock medical supplies.
- Set up examination room and instruments following proper sterilization techniques.
- Maintain logging system for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, crash cart, etc.
- Check expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies, disposing appropriately.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.
- Comply with personal protective equipment requirements for protection against exposure to hazardous substances.
- Assist in the maintenance of medical charts (filing, Op Reports, test results, home care forms).
- Schedule surgeries/procedures or work with Surgical Coordinator verifying times with patients.
- Perform proficient phlebotomy duties.
- Perform appointment scheduling and registration for patients, updating patient demographic and insurance information.
- Maintain, adjust, and confirm patient office schedule.
- Check, verify, and update insurance information utilizing internal or web sources.
- Perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
- Medical Assistant certificate from an approved school.
- BLS certification – Required Issuing Authority: AHA.
Preferred Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural and language-deficit patients.
- Effective interpersonal and communications skills required.
- Excellent telephone etiquette.
- Proficient in medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines.
- Knowledge of electronic medical record or billing systems preferred, but not required.
- Must be able to adapt to a growing and changing environment.
