This is a full-time position for a Medical Assistant within the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine providing outpatient care to patients and supporting physicians across all clinical areas of the practice. The role is responsible for assisting providers and nurses with patient examinations, ensuring efficient operations and high-quality, patient-centered care.
This position requires travel between all office locations and throughout all divisions to meet the department’s demands.
Responsibilities:
Clinical Patient Care and Procedural Support – 60%
Assist physicians, providers, and nurses in the daily care of patients across general OB/GYN services.
Assist with common OB/GYN procedures and testing under the direct supervision of a physician or nurse practitioner/physician assistant.
Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, including routine gynecologic visits and prenatal care.
Obtain and record vital signs, including height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure.
Draw blood and administer injections under the supervision of a Physician or Registered Nurse.
Collect and prepare laboratory specimens.
Chaperone and assist during office procedures, examinations, and diagnostic tests.
Maintain clean, well-equipped examination rooms; clean and sterilize instruments.
Stock examination rooms and triage areas with necessary medical supplies.
Sterilize equipment per manufacturer guidelines.
Prepare patient education packets and folders related to OB/GYN care.
Care Coordination and Medical Records Management – 30%
Prepare charts for upcoming appointments; create new patient charts and verify referrals and authorizations prior to visits.
Ensure all necessary data—such as labs, medical records, and imaging—are available before appointments.
Create and update patient forms and documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Obtain labs, clinic notes, inpatient records, and specialty reports from referring providers.
Obtain records from referring physicians, hospitals, laboratories, emergency departments, and radiology facilities.
Obtain referrals and schedule outside appointments with specialists as directed.
Document all patient information accurately in the EMR.
Monitor and complete EMR tasks daily.
Operational Support & Organizational Responsibilities – 10%
Receive and complete assigned tasks from providers.
Ensure efficient workflow and adherence to departmental standards.
Support back-office administrative functions as required.
Participate in staff meetings, educational lectures, and quality improvement initiatives.
Assist in training and onboarding new Medical Assistants.
Perform other duties as assigned based on departmental needs
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications and Skills:
EDUCATION:
Completion of a Medical Assistant program and certification; RMA or CMA required.
Completion of BLS or other approved CPR courses required with recertification every 2 years.
EXPERIENCE:
Ability to balance multiple priorities and tasks required.
Ability to make professional decisions under the supervision of the physicians and licensed nurses required.
Professional interaction skills with physicians, outside offices, pharmacies, referring agencies, hospital personnel and support staff required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
Ability to read and comprehend all information required for this position required.
Ability to calculate figures and amounts required for medication administration required.
Preferred Qualifications:
At least one (1) year of clinical experience in a fast-paced ambulatory setting is preferred.
Women’s health or OB/GYN experience is preferred.
