Medical Assistants (MA) in the medical office setting supports providers by delivering direct and indirect patient care in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner. The MA may assist with clinical procedures, maintains accurate documentation, and provides administrative support to ensure smooth daily operations. The MA functions within their defined scope of practice (based on office type clinic/HOD), under supervision, and in alignment with Mercy's mission and standards of care.

Overview
Mercy Pediatrics is seeking a compassionate and adaptable Medical Assistant - Pediatrics Float to support our growing pediatric practices, including our Breastfeeding Program. In this role, you will provide both clinical and administrative support to providers while helping ensure a positive experience for patients and families across pediatric care settings.
As a float Medical Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work with multiple pediatric providers and teams, demonstrating flexibility, strong clinical skills, and a commitment to patient-centered care.
Responsibilities
As a Medical Assistant, you will:
Greet and room pediatric patients and obtain vital signs.
Complete Advanced Standard Rooming in applicable primary care settings.
Collect and update patient medical and medication histories.
Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during exams and procedures.
Perform basic diagnostic testing, including urine dipsticks, glucose testing, and EKGs as deemed competent.
Accurately document patient care and clinical information in the electronic health record.
Reinforce education provided by physicians and nurses to patients and families.
Maintain exam room cleanliness and ensure adequate supplies are available.
Assist with referrals, diagnostic testing, and follow-up appointment scheduling.
Support front-office functions, including answering phones, check-in/check-out, scanning, and fax management.
Participate in quality improvement activities and department meetings.
Follow all infection prevention, safety, and regulatory policies and procedures.
Perform other duties within the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
Qualifications
Required Education & Training
High school diploma or equivalent required.
New hires must successfully complete Mercy's MA Clinic Academy training.
Preferred Education & Experience
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
One year of experience in an outpatient or ambulatory care setting.
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification preferred.
Skills & Abilities
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
Experience using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Knowledge of outpatient clinical procedures and equipment.
Commitment to patient-centered care and professional development.
Ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations and families.
Work Environment
Outpatient pediatric clinic setting with frequent patient interaction.
Regular standing, walking, and movement throughout the clinic.
Exposure to infectious materials; personal protective equipment (PPE) provided.
Physical Requirements
Ability to push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to bend, kneel, twist, squat, reach, and perform repetitive hand movements as needed.

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 185 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who wanted to help the poor women and children of Dublin. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill her dreams. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to poor women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, the first religious order not bound to the rules of the cloister, whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. By the time Catherine died in 1841, there were convents in Ireland and England, and in 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1871, they traveled to St. Louis and from there throughout the Midwest, beginning what would, today be known as Mercy.
