Job Summary

The Medical Assistant provides front and back office medical assistance in support of student and employee health services.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Clinical & Patient Care Duties

  • Assist with patient examinations, including assessing and documenting vital signs.
  • Administer medications, including injectable medications and vaccines, in accordance with clinic protocols and provider orders.
  • Perform laboratory procedures including venipuncture, finger stick, urinalysis, and specimen collection.
  • Triage patients within defined scope of care and administer first aid as appropriate.
  • Maintain compliance with OSHA, employee health standards, and clinic safety requirements.
  • Maintain current MA and CPR certifications and required continuing education.

Front Desk & Administrative Duties

  • Perform front and back office duties including patient check-in and check-out, answering phones, scheduling appointments, keyboarding, and data entry using clinic software systems.
  • Manage and maintain accurate patient records in accordance with privacy and confidentiality standards.
  • Support accounts payable and receivable processes as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe, efficient, confidential, and patient-friendly clinic environment.
  • Participate in staff meetings and programs related to clinic operations and the Center for Health & Counseling.

Supplies & Inventory Support (As Assigned)

  • Support tracking of front and back office supplies inventory.
  • Compile and prepare draft supply requests on a regular or as-needed basis.
  • Coordinate supply information with the Assistant Director and designated stakeholders.
  • This role does not include independent ordering authority or budgetary responsibility.

  • Reliable personal attendance and punctuality to ensure smooth clinic flow and consistent hours of operation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
  • Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.

Minimum qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential required.
  • One (1) to four (4) years of demonstrated Medical Assistant experience including clinical, administrative, and laboratory skills.
  • One additional year of experience in one or more of the following areas: Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, Clerical, Reception, Scheduling, Cashiering, Administrative Assistant, or other medical or healthcare related experience.
  • Tradeoff 1:1 in experience/education for additional one year of experience requirement. For example; completion of 30 credit hours (1 year equivalent) of post-high school higher education may be considered in lieu of the one additional year of experience.
  • Part-time experience may be substituted on a prorated basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting multi-site clinic operations.
  • Experience with workflow coordination, training support, or quality assurance activities in a healthcare or clinic setting
  • Experience with a second language is a plus
