Summary:
- Responsible for performing a variety of duties depending on assignment and assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinical services.
Responsibilities:
- Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned
- a. Checking schedules and organizing patient flow
- b. Accompanying patients to exam/procedure room
- c. Assisting patients as needed with walking transfers, dressing, preparing for exam, etc.
- d. Collecting patient history
- performing screenings per provider guidelines
- assisting physicians/nurses with various procedures
- e. Charting
- relaying instructions to patients/families
- answering calls, and providing pertinent information
- Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned
- a. Sending/receiving patient medical records
- obtaining lab/X-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.
- b. Completing forms/requisitions as needed
- managing and updating EMR to ensure that information is complete
- Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned
- a. Setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocols
- b. Cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control
- c. Ordering, sorting, storing supplies
- and restocking exam/procedure rooms
- Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned
- a. Respecting/promoting patient rights
- b. Responding appropriately to emergency codes
- c. Sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor
Credentials:
- Medical Assistant - PSV Manual (Required)
- If Registered, current MA registration
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required)
Education or Equivalent Experience:
- Other (Required)
- H.S. diploma + Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a community college course in medical assisting Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant and/or documented evidence of externship completed in a medical office. Electrocardiogram (EKG), vital signs, venipuncture, and injection experience. Current documentation of completed program for Medical Assisting or Patient Care Technician.
