    Job Description


    The Medical Assistant assumes a pivotal role within VisionQuest by spearheading the team's approach to non-clinical

    health service delivery. The Medical Assistant duties encompass assisting with evaluating, facilitating, and overseeing

    all aspects of the youth’s medical care. Emphasizing disease prevention and health upkeep, the

    Medical Assistant collaborates closely with the Lead Medical Coordinator and the Medical Coordinator to ensure

    children in our care receive the best health services available and timely medical intervention.



    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Compliance and Documentation

    o Maintain knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and federal regulations governing

    medical care and coordination for youth.

    o Ensure strict adherence to HIPAA and confidentiality standards in all health-related

    communications and record-keeping.

    o Assist the Lead Medical Coordinator and Medical Coordinator with maintaining accurate,

    organized, and up-to-date medical files for each youth, including electronic documentation in

    the VisionQuest database and partnered federal agency's Portal, and hard copies of required records.

    o Maintain medication administration logs and ensure all documentation meets

    VisionQuest, partnered federal agency, and licensing requirements.

    o Support the Lead Medical Coordinator and Medical Coordinator in completing medical

    audits, inventory checks, and other compliance-related activities.

    Medical Care Support and Coordination

    o Assist with scheduling medical, dental, and mental health appointments in compliance

    with partnered federal agency and licensing timelines.

    o Coordinate and provide transportation or escort services for youth to and from

    appointments.

    o Support the Lead Medical Coordinator and Medical Coordinator and healthcare providers

    during examinations and medical procedures, preparing rooms, equipment, and supplies

    as appropriate.

    o Assist in dispensing and documenting over-the-counter and prescribed medications

    according to VisionQuest’s self-administration of medication policy.

    o Monitor and promptly report any medical emergencies or urgent health concerns to the

    Lead Medical Coordinator and Medical Coordinator or appropriate staff.

    o Track immunizations, screenings, and follow-up care, ensuring timely completion and

    documentation.

    o Assist in health education for youth, providing age-appropriate guidance on hygiene, illness

    prevention, and basic health practices under the direction of the Lead Medical Coordinator

    and Medical Coordinator.

    Collaboration and Communication

    o Maintain professional and respectful communication with internal and external

    stakeholders, including medical providers, program staff, and partnered federal agency representatives.

    o Work closely with the Lead Medical Coordinator and Medical Coordinator, case

    management, and direct care staff to ensure continuity of care and proper follow-up on

    medical recommendations.

    o Participate in departmental and program meetings to stay informed of policy updates,

    health protocols, and operational changes.

    o Support interdepartmental collaboration to ensure timely sharing of medical information

    relevant to case planning and child safety.

    o Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.



    SKILLS & ABILITIES:

    Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

    Excellent writing and technical proficiency.

    Proficient in reading, interpreting and applying partnered federal agency policies and procedures including their

    policy guide and youth MAPs.

    Organized with attention to detail.



    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

    High school diploma or equivalent degree

    Minimum of 1 year of employment experience working in the child welfare field working with children

    and/or adolescents in a social service setting.



    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Must be 21 years of age or older.

    Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.

    Flexible schedule (evening, weekends, holidays) to facilitate program services.

    Cleared tuberculosis test results.

    Must be able to pass a drug test.

    Must be able to provide proof of required vaccinations.

    Cleared background checks from appropriate entities, including Child Abuse and Neglect and FBI

    criminal background.

    Obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.

    Must have a valid driver’s license and be eligible to drive to facilitate program services as required.



    WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    May lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently, up to 20 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds

    infrequently.

    Performs tasks that may involve standing or walking 50% of the day; sitting 50%of the day.

    May bend, stoop, reach and grasp as necessary.

    Must be able to provide First Aid and CPR.

    Must be able to perform physical holds as instructed in Crisis Prevention Intervention training

    (CPI).
