Pay Rate: $18 per hour to $22 per hour

Summary:

  • Shift time: Monday-Friday, 9-5pm
  • Certified Medical Assistant Required.

Responsibilities:

  • Fulfill patient care responsibilities, including performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules, organizing patient flow, assisting patients with walking, transferring, dressing, collecting and processing specimens, and preparing for exams.
  • Assist physicians with various procedures, take vital signs, relay instructions to patients or families, answer calls, and provide pertinent information.
  • Fulfill clerical responsibilities, including sending and receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, completing forms and requisitions, and managing charts using the electronic medical record (EMR) system or manually as necessary.
  • Enter orders into the EMR system or prepare prescription refill requests for physician review and approval.
  • Inventory, order, or re-stock medical supplies as applicable.
  • Set up examination rooms and instruments according to proper sterilization techniques and infection control policies.
  • Maintain logging systems for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization processes, crash carts, etc.
  • Check expiration dates on medications and medical supplies, disposing of them appropriately per institution policy.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  • Comply with personal protective equipment requirements for protection against exposure to blood, body fluids, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.
  • Assist in maintaining medical charts, filing, and organizing test results and forms.
  • Schedule surgeries/procedures or work with Surgical Coordinator to verify times with patients, prepare charts, pre-admissions, and consent forms as necessary.
  • Perform proficient phlebotomy duties as required.
  • Perform appointment scheduling and registration, updating patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Maintain, adjust, and confirm patient office schedules.
  • Verify and update insurance information using internal or web sources.
  • Perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
  • Medical Assistant certificate from an approved school.
  • BLS certification required, issued by AHA.
  • Certified Medical Assistant preferred.

Preferred Skills:

  • Basic proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural and language-deficit patients.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette.
  • Proficient in medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical record or billing systems preferred, but not required.
  • Must be able to adapt to a growing and changing environment.
