Medical Assisting Adjunct Instructor

SUMMARY STATEMENT

The Medical Assistant Adjunct Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality didactic, laboratory, clinical, and professional development instruction aligned with current Medical Assisting education standards, industry best practices, patient-centered care principles, and employer expectations. The successful candidate will foster student success by developing clinical competence, critical thinking, professionalism, ethical practice, communication skills, and readiness for national certification and employment in the medical assisting profession.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

A. The Adjunct Instructor for the Medical Assisting Program reports directly to and is responsible to the Allied Health Program Manager.

B. The coordinates most closely with the CNA and Medical Assisting Programs Coordinator and other program staff to support student learning and program success.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

• Teach Medical Assisting courses in classroom, online, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings.
• Deliver instruction in administrative, clinical, and laboratory procedures consistent with current industry standards and scope of practice.
• Demonstrate and supervise clinical skills such as:

o Vital signs

o Medication administration

o Electrocardiography (EKG)

o Specimen collection and processing

o Assisting with examinations and minor office procedures

• Evaluate student performance through examinations, projects, laboratory competencies, and clinical assessments.
• Maintain accurate attendance, grades, competency records, and other required documentation.
• Ensure compliance with institutional policies, accreditation standards, safety regulations, and clinical site requirements.
• Utilize instructional technologies, learning management systems, and simulation equipment to enhance student learning.
• Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback, remediation, and academic support.
• Participate in curriculum review and program improvement activities as assigned.
• Collaborate with program faculty, advisory committee members, healthcare partners, and college administration.
• Maintain current knowledge of medical assisting practices, healthcare regulations, and educational methodologies.
• Support student preparation for national certification examinations and workforce entry.
• Promote an inclusive, respectful, and professional learning environment.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Associate degree or higher in Medical Assisting or a related healthcare field. Bachelor's degree or higher in a healthcare-related field preferred. Minimum of three (3) years of recent clinical experience in a physician's office, outpatient clinic, ambulatory care setting, or related healthcare environment. Previous teaching, workforce training, or clinical education experience preferred. Current CPR/BLS certification through the American Heart Association or equivalent.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Demonstrated proficiency in both administrative and clinical medical assisting functions.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to effectively teach and mentor students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
• Proficiency with computers, electronic health records, and instructional technology.
• Ability to demonstrate and supervise clinical procedures.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift instructional equipment and supplies up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to perform medical assisting skills required for instructional demonstrations.
• Manual dexterity sufficient to operate medical equipment and laboratory instruments.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

• Classroom and healthcare laboratory settings.
• Potential travel to clinical education sites and community healthcare partners.
• Evening, weekend, or hybrid instructional assignments may be required.
