Job DetailsPosition Overview
The Medical Assisting Program Director provides leadership for the Certificate in Medical Assisting program. This is a full-time, on-site role. The ideal candidate is committed to innovative, relevant education for students.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate and consult with faculty to promote maximum commitment and results
- Maintain high standards of instruction and service; lead accreditation and self-study efforts
- Complete and administer the annual budget
- Recruit, hire, and evaluate faculty
- Organize student advising procedures, faculty teaching loads, and quarterly class schedules
- Develop and maintain relationships with practicum sites
- Support collaboration with other programs for interprofessional educational opportunities
- Represent the MA program internally and in the community at large
Requirements
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred)
- Instruction in educational theory and techniques
- Credentialed in good standing in Medical Assisting (see details below)
- Minimum of 3 years employed in a healthcare facility, including at least 160 hours in an ambulatory setting performing or observing administrative and clinical procedures as performed by MAs
- Minimum of one year of teaching experience in postsecondary and/or vocational/technical education
Medical Assisting Credential Details
a. Must have earned and be able to document a Medical Assisting credential from an NCCA-accredited credentialing organization, or
b. Qualify for and earn the RMA credential by meeting one of the following:
1. Employed as a medical assistant for at least five of the last seven years (no more than two of which may be as an instructor in a post-secondary MA program), with experience in both clinical and administrative duties, or
2. Five years of full-time employment in a healthcare field within the past seven years (may be a combination of part-time settings), plus 40 hours of experience in an ambulatory care setting performing and/or observing psychomotor and affective domain objectives appropriate to the MA curriculum. The selected candidate must sit for an MA credentialing exam and earn the credential.
