Description

Valley Oak SPCA is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Medical Care Lead to join our team at the Adoption & Education Center. This role is responsible for ensuring the daily health and well-being of animals through medicating, monitoring, and documenting medical care, as well as training staff on intake and treatment protocols.

  • The ideal candidate has strong animal handling skills, experience with medicating and observing animals for illness or injury, and the ability to maintain accurate records. This position also oversees medical inventory, communicates animal health updates to staff, and helps ensure that all animals receive the highest standard of care while they await adoption.
  • We’re looking for a team player with excellent communication and leadership skills who can balance hands-on animal care with mentoring staff and supporting volunteers. What You’ll Do:

  • Oversee medical intake of animals, including vaccinations, microchipping, and health assessments.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the shelter veterinarian.
  • Monitor animals for signs of illness, injury, or stress and communicate concerns promptly.
  • Maintain accurate health and treatment records.
  • Train and guide staff and volunteers on safe animal handling, intake protocols, and medical care procedures.
  • Manage medical inventory and ensure supplies are properly stocked.
  • Support adoption staff by providing accurate medical information to adopters.


Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

    • Vet Assistant certificate or RVT with veterinary/animal care training preferred
  • Experience in animal care, handling, and medicating

  • Strong communication and organizational skills

  • Ability to train and support staff and volunteers
