Job Summary and Qualifications Responsible for the safe, secure, and timely transportation of medical specimens, pharmaceuticals, blood products, medical supplies, equipment, documents, and other healthcare-related materials between Methodist Healthcare System facilities and approved external locations. Ensures chain-of-custody requirements are maintained, delivery schedules are met, and customer service standards are consistently upheld while supporting patient care operations across the health care system. Essential Job Functions: Safely transports laboratory specimens, blood products, pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, equipment, patient-related documents, and other healthcare materials between designated locations. Maintains required chain-of-custody procedures and ensures proper handling, security, and confidentiality of all transported items. Performs route assignments in a timely and efficient manner while adjusting priorities to accommodate and time-sensitive deliveries such as STAT, ASAP and RUSH. Utilizes dispatch, tracking, scanning, and communication systems to accurately document pickups, deliveries, and route activity. Verifies shipment contents, delivery destinations, and special handling requirements prior to transport. Maintains effective communication with department dispatch team, department team members, hospitals, clinics, laboratories, pharmacies, nursing units, and other customers regarding delivery status and service needs. Additional Job Functions: Maintains accurate electronic and manual records of deliveries, pickups, vehicle inspections, mileage, and courier activity. Assists with inventory movement, supply distribution, equipment transfers, and special project deliveries as assigned. Supports emergency preparedness activities and provides transportation support during operational disruptions or critical events. Provides exceptional customer service while interacting with patients, visitors, physicians, nurses, laboratory personnel, pharmacy staff, and other customers. Completes other duties as assigned. Understands and is committed to helping the Methodist Healthcare System and its associated facilities achieve organizational goals and operational objectives. Complies with all System and facility safety policies, infection prevention standards, confidentiality requirements, and regulatory guidelines. Required Competencies: Knowledge of Medical Courier Operations Demonstrates knowledge of medical courier and delivery practices, including specimen transport, chain-of-custody requirements, delivery tracking systems, and customer service standards. Demonstrates proficiency in the use of computers, scanning equipment, communication devices, and other tools necessary to support healthcare logistics operations. Technical/Professional Knowledge Having achieved a satisfactory level of technical and professional skill or knowledge in position related areas; keeping up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise. Minimum Education and Experience : High school diploma or equivalent required. Ability to read and interpret names, addresses, medical documentation, route information, and tracking numbers accurately. Six months of experience in courier services, delivery operations, transportation, healthcare logistics, supply chain operations, or a related field preferred. Basic computer skills and experience utilizing scanning, tracking, dispatch, or mobile communication systems are preferred. Minimum License and Certificates Required: Valid Driver's License Required Equipment Utilized: PC, iPhone, Microsoft Office applications, courier dispatch and routing software, delivery tracking and scanning applications, GPS/navigation systems, fleet vehicles, printers, scanners, and common office equipment. Environmental and Physical Demands/Hazardous Conditions : WORKING CONDITIONS INSIDE: Spends approximately 10 hours or more per week inside. OUTSIDE: Spend approximately 30 hours per week outside (driving/running work related errands). WORK POSITIONS: (defined in 10% increments of work time): Sitting 20 % Standing 60% Walking 20% LIFTING/CARRYING DEMANDS MEDIUM WORK: Lifting 50 lbs. maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
