Medical Director

Position Overview

We are looking for a seasoned professional to lead and guide medical initiatives within a prominent respiratory program. This individual will be responsible for formulating overarching medical strategies, converting them into actionable plans, and working in tandem with diverse teams across the organization.

In this role, you will engage closely with internal teams such as Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, Commercial, Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), Medical Communications, Field Medical, and other key stakeholders to ensure a unified approach to evidence generation, launch readiness, and external collaboration.

This is a 6-month contract position based onsite in Bridgewater, NJ.

Key Responsibilities

• Formulate and execute medical strategies for respiratory therapeutic areas, aligning with organizational and program goals.
• Convert medical strategies into detailed plans linked to development and commercial milestones.
• Serve as a medical subject matter expert and strategic partner to cross-functional teams, including Clinical, Commercial, Operations, HEOR, and others.
• Identify evidence gaps and contribute to data-generation strategies to address unmet medical and scientific needs.
• Build and sustain relationships with external experts and key scientific stakeholders in the respiratory field.
• Develop and implement strategies for engaging with key opinion leaders and external experts.
• Support the development and review of scientific and medical materials, including publications, communications, background materials, FAQs, and training content.
• Collaborate with Medical Communications and other stakeholders on publication and scientific communication strategies.
• Contribute to annual planning and budget development for medical activities.
• Collaborate across regions and functions to ensure consistency and alignment in medical strategy and execution.
• Identify opportunities to incorporate innovative approaches and industry best practices into planning and execution.
• Provide strategic medical input into launch planning and other major program milestones.
• Ensure activities are conducted in compliance with regulatory, compliance, and company requirements.

Qualifications

• MD or equivalent medical degree required.
• 6 years of experience within Medical Affairs or a closely related pharmaceutical or biotechnology environment.
• Previous experience in pulmonology/respiratory medicine is required.
• Strong understanding of Medical Affairs strategy, planning, and execution.
• Experience supporting product launch activities is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategic plans.
• Experience working cross-functionally within a matrixed organization.
• Previous leadership experience, including the ability to influence without direct authority.
• Experience working across multiple geographic markets or within a global organization is preferred.
• Strong understanding of evidence generation and medical strategy development.
• Ability to build effective relationships with external scientific experts and internal stakeholders.
• Strong strategic thinking and ability to connect scientific, clinical, and commercial considerations.
• Demonstrated ability to drive projects forward and implement change within a complex organization.
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
• Highly collaborative, organized, and detail-oriented.
• Comfortable working independently while serving as a medical representative within cross-functional teams.
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally, up to approximately 25%.

Education

• MD or equivalent medical degree required.
• Additional clinical, scientific, or business training is a plus.
