Locum Medical Director (Full-Time)

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Assignment Length: 3 months with the option to extend
Start Date: Immediate

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Locum Medical Director to provide clinical leadership and oversight for a residential healthcare facility serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This full-time leadership role is responsible for directing and coordinating comprehensive medical services while ensuring the highest standards of patient care, regulatory compliance, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

The Medical Director oversees the delivery of medical, psychiatric, dental, pharmaceutical, and laboratory services, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care for individuals with complex medical, behavioral, and psychiatric needs. This position combines executive medical leadership with direct patient care responsibilities and serves as a key member of the facility's leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for all medical services within the facility.

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality healthcare services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including those with complex medical, psychiatric, and behavioral health needs.

  • Oversee the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing medical management of patients.

  • Direct the administration of specialized medical treatments and procedures.

  • Supervise physicians, Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs), Physician Assistants, pharmacists, dentists, psychiatrists, and other contracted medical professionals.

  • Serve as the primary care physician for an assigned patient caseload.

  • Provide consultation and support to other medical providers on complex clinical cases.

  • Participate in and oversee interdisciplinary treatment planning and care team meetings.

  • Coordinate medical care for employees who sustain work-related injuries.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, Department of Justice requirements, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.

  • Participate in leadership committees, interdisciplinary planning conferences, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders through meetings and conference calls.

  • Develop and manage the physician on-call schedule while participating in shared on-call coverage.

  • Support emergency preparedness, disaster response, and Continuity of Operations (COOP) activities as needed, which may require alternate schedules or work locations.

  • Exercise independent clinical judgment while working under minimal administrative supervision.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO).

  • Active, unrestricted medical license in the State of Texas.

  • Current registration with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

  • National Provider Identifier (NPI).

  • Eligibility to enroll as a Medicare Part B and Medicaid provider.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience overseeing multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

  • Experience caring for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and medically complex patient populations is strongly preferred.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

  • Ability to work independently while leading a diverse clinical team.

Assignment Details

  • Position Type: Locum Tenens

  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

  • Term: 3 months with the possibility of extension
