McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston seeks an experienced, fellowship-trained transplant nephrologist to serve as Medical Director of Living Donor Kidney Transplantation in the Memorial Hermann Transplant Institute. This position is a full-time (1.0 FTE), non-tenure clinical track, open rank position within the Department of Surgery, Division of Abdominal Organ Transplantation. The selected candidate will contribute to the department's mission to educate health science professionals, discover and translate advances in the biomedical and social sciences, and model the best practices in clinical care and public health through research, teaching, clinical service, administrative activities, and other services. Position Key Accountabilities: The position involves providing inpatient and outpatient care at the Abdominal Transplant Center within the Memorial Hermann Transplant Institute, instructing students, residents, and fellows at McGovern Medical School, and engaging in research related to transplantation.Roles and responsibilities:Providing leadership and oversight for the living donor kidney transplant program in collaboration with the Medical and Surgical Directors of Kidney Transplantation.Performing inpatient and outpatient clinical care for kidney transplant patients within the Memorial Hermann Transplant Institute.Collaborating with an interprofessional team to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care.Educating interdisciplinary learners.Supporting current training programs as well as the development of advanced training programs (i.e., transplant nephrology fellowship)Promoting the research mission of the department and university by:providing access to patients, biological specimens, and clinical data for ongoing studies and/orpursuing basic science or clinical research either as a principal investigator or as a member of an interdisciplinary team.Engaging as a member of transplant-related committees, such as for Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI), transplant evaluation, and patient selection (i.e., Medical Review Board (MRB).Participating in divisional and departmental activities such as faculty meetings and conferences.Promoting a culture of safety by adhering to evidence-based practices, advocating for patient-centered care, and fostering open communicationAdhering to regulatory standards such as those set forth by CMS, OPTN, and the Joint Commission.Qualifications:MD, DO, or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.Completion of an accredited transplant nephrology fellowship.Board certification or eligibility.Possession of a Texas Medical License before the appointment start date.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Commitment to academic medicine.Applicants with at least 3 years of post-training clinical practice are preferred.
