    Job Summary

    The Family Practice Physician/Medical Director serves as the clinical leader for the Health Center and provides comprehensive diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic medical services in an ambulatory clinic setting. The incumbent provides clinical oversight and professional guidance to medical staff to ensure continuity and quality of care.

    The Medical Director collaborates with the Director of Health & Social Services on administrative operations including strategic planning, clinical program development, budgeting, quality assurance initiatives, and regulatory compliance. The position also works closely with the Business Office Manager to ensure fiscal stewardship related to medical billing and reimbursement services.

    Responsibilities
    • Responsible for providing comprehensive primary health care services including diagnostic, preventive, therapeutic, urgent care, and follow-up services to patients.
    • Assesses and examines patients, reviews medical histories, orders diagnostic testing, develops treatment plans, and coordinates specialty referrals as appropriate.
    • Ensures accurate and timely documentation within the electronic health record (EHR) system and maintains comprehensive medical records for all patients.
    • Provides leadership, oversight, and professional guidance to clinicians, allied health professionals, and contracted medical providers to ensure quality patient care and continuity of services.
    • Responsible for oversight of credentialing and peer review processes to ensure compliance with organizational policies and reimbursement requirements.
    • Oversees CLIA-waived laboratory testing procedures and Health Center pharmacy operations.
    • Collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to support integrated patient care services and professional development initiatives.
    • Identifies and addresses risk management, staffing, patient satisfaction, and clinical performance concerns while supporting program development initiatives.
    • Conducts chart reviews and assists in the development and implementation of Quality Assurance and performance improvement projects.
    • Ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, organizational policies, and clinical protocols.
    • Provides clinical guidance and recommendations to Health Center leadership regarding operational and patient care matters.
    • Participates in organizational meetings, huddles, and collaborative care initiatives as required.
    • Performs additional duties as assigned.
    Certifications:
    • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Practice or Urgent Care Medicine (certification required within 6 months if eligible)
    • Current CPR certification

    Qualifications & Requirements
    • Possess a valid unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of New Mexico and current DEA certification.
    • Completed an accredited medical school program.
    • Have a minimum of ten (10) years of medical experience in an outpatient family medical clinic setting including pediatrics, obstetrics/gynecology, urgent care, geriatrics, and non-emergency care.
    • Have a minimum of five (5) years of supervisory or leadership experience in a healthcare environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to provide executive leadership, supervise multidisciplinary clinical teams, and support quality patient care initiatives.
    • Strong knowledge of current principles, practices, methods, and techniques related to family medicine and ambulatory healthcare services.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, providers, staff, and external healthcare partners.
    • Must be able to successfully pass background investigation and drug screening requirements.
