POSITION SUMMARY
Idaho Hand Institute is seeking a motivated and professional individual to join our orthopedic hand and upper extremity specialty practice. The front desk receptionist serves as the first point of contact for patients, visitors, and callers, providing professional customer service and supporting the efficient operation of the practice. This position coordinates the patient visit from check-in through check-out by scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, collecting payments, maintaining accurate patient information, answering and routing phone calls, and completing required administrative tasks. The front desk receptionist works closely with providers and staff to ensure efficient patient flow while maintaining confidentiality and compliance with practice policies. 

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Greet patients and visitors in a courteous and professional manner. Answer incoming telephone calls, route calls appropriately, take accurate messages, and respond to routine inquiries.
  • Register patients by verifying and updating demographic, insurance, and other required information. Verify insurance eligibility and benefits, obtain necessary authorizations, collect copays, deductibles, and outstanding patient balances.
  • Schedule, reschedule, and confirm office appointments, follow-up visits, diagnostic testing, imaging, therapy, and surgical procedures. Provide patients with preparation instructions and coordinate referrals or other appointments as directed.
  • Check patients in and out, maintain accurate electronic health records by scanning and indexing documents, process incoming faxes, assist with medical record requests, and perform other clerical duties as assigned.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and data entry within the electronic health record while protecting patient confidentiality and complying with HIPAA and practice policies.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, medical assistants, billing staff, and other team members to ensure efficient patient flow and a positive patient experience.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Idaho Hand Institute policies, applicable laws, accreditation standards, and professional standards of conduct.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced medical office while managing high call volume, multiple computer systems, face-to-face patient interaction.
  • Proficient computer and data entry skills, including a minimum typing speed of 30 words per minute with accuracey.
  • Strong customer service, communication and organizational skills. 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience working in a medical office, healthcare, or hospital setting. 
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) and insurance verification.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENT FACTORS
  • Prolonged periods of sitting with frequent standing and walking. 
  • Frequent use of a computer, telephone, copier, scanner, and other standard office equipment.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to type, write, file, and operate office equipment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 20 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to read printed materials and computer screens and accurately enter information into electronic systems.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and in writing with patients, providers, and staff

Compensation: $12.00 - $15.00 per hour
