Description

TheForeignLanguageMedicalInterpreterprovidesaccurateconsecutiveand/orsimultaneousinterpretationforLimitedEnglishProficient (LEP)patientsandtheirfamilies,ensuringcompleteandculturallyappropriatecommunicationthroughoutthecontinuumofcare. Servingasbothalanguagespecialistandculturalliaison,theinterpreterpromotesunderstandingbetweenpatientsandhealthcareproviders,supportsequitablecaredelivery,andensuresadherencetoregulatoryrequirementsandprofessionalstandards.Thispositionalsoparticipatesindepartmentaleducation,documentation,andperformanceimprovementinitiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES



Language



Interpretation

+ Provideaccurateinterpretationduringmedicalencountersusingconsecutive,simultaneous,andsighttranslationtechniques. + Deliverinterpretationservicesviain-person,telephone,orvideoremoteinterpretationplatformswhenneeded. + Supportcommunicationinavarietyofclinicalenvironmentsincludingsurgery,trauma,mentalhealth,palliativecare,anddischargeplanning.

Mediation

+ Serveasaculturalliaisontobridgecommunicationgapsbetweenpatientsandhealthcareteams. + Assistprovidersinunderstandingculturalconsiderationsthatmayimpactcaredeliveryorpatientdecision-making.

Compliance

+ Maintainaccuraterecordsofinterpretationencountersincludingencountertype,duration,andservicelocation. + EnsurestrictadherencetoHIPAAregulations,theNationalCodeofEthicsforInterpretersinHealthCare,andEmoryHealthcarepolicies.

Mentorship

+ Participateincontinuingeducation,competencyvalidation,anddepartmentalqualityimprovementinitiatives. + Mentornewlyhiredinterpretersandparticipateinpeerreviewprocesses. + Provideeducationandtrainingtostaffregardinglanguageaccesscomplianceandinterpreterserviceprotocols.

+ Assistwithinterpreterschedulinganddispatchactivitiesduringlow-volumeperiods. + Supportthedeployment,maintenance,andtroubleshootingofinterpretationequipmentincludingphones,tablets,andvideoremoteinterpretation (VRI)units.

+ Providepatientandfamilysupportbyfacilitatingcommunicationandnavigationofcareservices. + Connectpatientsandfamilieswithhospitalorcommunityresourcesasappropriate. + Participateinon-callorafter-hourscoverageasrequired.
