Position Summary:Provides advanced technical skills in performing and analyzing various clinical laboratory tests and procedures used in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.Position Key Accountabilities:Performs requested tests on patients enabling physicians to clinically evaluate patients.Performs routine and special laboratory assays on patient specimens, exercising independent judgment when evaluating the validity of test results.Recommends and implements new and revised testing procedures to provide accurate and informative test results.Performs quality control checks on all tests and equipment to guarantee accurate test results.Maintains inventory of all necessary supplies and reagents.Reviews products, reagents, and new market kits. Tests procedures in journals for accuracy and reproducibility. Develops new tests, improves old test procedures, plots data, and logs test results in the area of research.General duties such as maintaining lab cleanliness, maintaining inventory, washing lab ware.Maintains competency and participating in proficiency testing as appropriate.Responds to emergency situations.Performs other duties as assigned.Certification/Skills: None Work may involve handling biohazardous, chemical, and radiological materials, as well as operating associated equipment. Required safety training and appropriate engineering and administrative controls including the use of personal protective equipment must be followed. Certified Medical Lab Scientist (MLS(ASCP)) by American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required within 180 DaysMinimum Education:Bachelor''s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical or Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field requiredMinimum Experience:1 year experience as a Medical Technologist required May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.Physical Requirements:Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.Security Sensitive:This position is a security-sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code §51.215 and Texas Government Code §411.094. To the extent that a position requires the holder to research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code §117.001(2), the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a minimum qualification to be hired for and to continue to be employed in that position.
