Position Overview
The Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Technologist will perform a variety of clinical laboratory testing and procedures used to assist healthcare providers with the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and advanced laboratory testing in areas including hematology, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, coagulation, and immunology
- Collect, receive, prepare, and process patient specimens in accordance with laboratory protocols
- Operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and instrumentation
- Analyze and verify laboratory results while ensuring accuracy and timely reporting
- Identify and communicate critical or abnormal results according to established procedures
- Perform quality control testing and maintain appropriate documentation
- Follow laboratory safety, infection control, and quality assurance procedures
- Maintain accurate patient records, test results, and laboratory documentation
- Recognize testing discrepancies and take appropriate corrective action
- Work collaboratively with laboratory staff, nurses, physicians, and other members of the healthcare team
- Maintain compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and laboratory standards
- Monitor laboratory supplies, reagents, and inventory levels
- Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, and a strong commitment to patient care
Education & Certification Requirements
- MLT: Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or a related field
- MT/MLS: Bachelors degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related discipline
- ASCP, AMT, or equivalent national certification preferred
- New graduates who meet certification eligibility requirements are encouraged to apply
- Previous clinical laboratory experience is preferred but not required for qualified new graduates
- Strong knowledge of laboratory testing procedures, quality control, and safety practices
- Excellent communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a team environment
