Medical Laboratory Technologist (Refugio County Memorial Hospital District) (Refugio, TX): Perform clinical laboratory tests in the areas of hematology, microbiology, immunology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis to obtain data for use in linearity studies, diagnosis and treatment of disease, performing qualitative and quantitative analyses, specifically utilizing Abbott, Beckman-Coulter, Baxter, Cepheid GeneXpert, and other various laboratory equipment. Set up and identify microbiology cultures for the purpose of appropriate identification and antimicrobial therapies and strategies for patients utilizing choices in rural Critical Access Hospital and CMS antimicrobial stewardship program guidelines. Calibrate, troubleshoot, perform minor computer programing, and physical repairs of laboratory equipment, specifically for Abbott, Baxter, Beckman-Coulter, and other miscellaneous laboratory instruments to ensure established standards of measurement accuracy. Originate, implement, supervise, and perform laboratory practices related to safety, environmental, and infection control practices as mandated by OSHA, COLA, & CLIA laboratory regulating bodies. Supervise and mentor junior laboratory technicians to teach them appropriate theoretical and practical application of laboratory techniques. Additionally, teaching crossmatching of blood, preparing blood to be transfused, and determining clotting abnormalities of blood in patients. Assist Laboratory Director with coordinative managerial work; lab supply ordering, specimen send out, billing process of laboratory testing (Cerner Millennium EHR) including Current Procedural Terminology coding and capturing of charges of patients. Must have experience with the following in order to complete the above-mentioned tasks: Experience using Abbott, Beckman-Coulter, and Baxter analyzers such as automated platelet analyzers, chemistry analyzers, and urinalysis analyzers. Experience with medical software as well as equipment including phlebotomy trays, medical software, laboratory diluters, photometers, and vacuum blood collection tubes. Experience with computer interface between Abbott, Beckman-Coulter, Baxter, Cepheid GeneXpert operating systems. Experience providing advice and collaboratively making decisions with medical care providers in support of diagnostic processes and interpreting laboratory data. Experience logging data from tests performed into the patient’s electronic medical record via various inputs (keying data entry, scanning, faxing, electronic healthcare data transfer) while maintaining patient privacy/compliance (e.g., HIPAA compliance). Requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Medical Technology or related field, and at least 3 years of occupational experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist or similar.
