Job Description
Summary:
Duration: 60 day contract
8AM TO 4:15PM M-F - 45 Minute unpaid lunch
Responsibilities:
- Assist in patient care responsibilities such as performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules, and organizing patient flow.
- Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms, assist with walking, transferring, and dressing.
- Collect and process specimens and conduct point of care testing.
- Prepare for exams and assist physicians with various procedures.
- Take vital signs, relay instructions to patients and families, answer calls, and provide pertinent information.
- Fulfill clerical responsibilities including managing patient medical records and completing forms and requisitions.
- Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepare prescription refill requests for physician review.
- Inventory, order, or restock medical supplies as needed.
- Set up examination rooms and instruments in accordance with sterilization techniques and infection control policies.
- Maintain logging systems for refrigeration of medications, sterilization processes, crash cart, and point of care testing.
- Check expiration dates on medications and medical supplies, disposing of them appropriately.
- Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.
- Comply with personal protective equipment requirements for protection against hazardous substances.
- Assist in maintaining medical charts, scheduling surgeries/procedures, and preparing charts and forms.
- Perform proficient phlebotomy duties as required.
- Schedule appointments, register patients, and update patient demographic and insurance information.
- Verify and update insurance information and perform pre-certification for procedures as necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of experience with expertise in using EPIC and Excel.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant from an approved school.
- Expertise in phlebotomy and EKG.
Preferred Skills:
- 3 years of experience working as a medical assistant.
- Relevant medical office/phlebotomy experience is desirable.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural patient populations.
