Job Summary and Qualifications

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for ensuring seamless care for patients by acting as liaison between patients, TBI Physicians and insurance companies. The position will assist in scheduling prescribed diagnostic testing, injections or other services as requested by the physicians and counsel the patients on their insurance benefits and co-payments as well as obtaining and maintaining accurate patient demographics. Must maintain service standards and superior customer service at all times for all responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Act as liaison between patient, physician and insurance company and assists patients with the next level of their care with regards to financial responsibility and scheduling
  • Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits using technology tools, the telephone and the internet to ensure compliance with the clinic’s policies and procedures
  • Coordinate with insurance providers and clinic to obtain referrals and pre-authorizations. Document these findings into the appropriate system(s)
  • Verify medical necessity and coordinate with clinicians to obtain updated information
  • Coordinate and communicate with other departments and physicians to assist with scheduling and financial responsibilities
  • Coordinate and work closely with TBI approved and preferred facilities and vendors for diagnostic testing / treatment etc. that has been referred outside of Texas Back Institute
  • Maintain appropriate relationships in the best interest of the patient and TBI
  • Work closely with patient and act as financial counselor to assist in the identification and collection of patient financial responsibilities
  • Communicate with patients to obtain any missing information necessary to achieve financial clearance
  • Review all demographic information for accuracy and completeness.
  • Understand and practice other duties which include check in/check out processes, scheduling new patients, template changes, process cash/credit card payments and balance transactions at end of each day, benefits verification, confirming appointments, etc.
  • Work orders to ensure timely and accurate processing.

General Responsibilities:

  • Treat patients and co-workers using our service standards at all times
  • Attend and participate in department meetings, and training classes
  • Keep organized and up-to-date all forms used and required by TBI standards and Best Practices
  • Be initial contact for customer complaints and/or refer dissatisfied patients to a manager
  • Maintain and promote HIPAA compliance in all areas
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

    • High School Diploma or GED
    • At least two years prior medical experience
    • At least two years prior experience with insurance with extensive knowledge about in and out of network benefits

    • Proficient in the use of general office equipment (fax, copier and computers)
    • Proficient data entry and typing skills (minimum 30 WPM minimum) with working knowledge of Microsoft applications
    • Exceptional problem solving and analytical abilities
    • Demonstrate team work with ability to work with others and assist others when needed
    • Proficient use of computer skills and other technology to increase quantity and/or quality of work
    • Display a positive attitude and optimism about the organization and work to be done
    • Show detailed attention to all tasks required for pre-certification
    • Demonstrate excellent ability to communicate verbally and in writing to a diverse group of people
    • Show sensitivity and respect to the needs and feelings of internal and external customers with appropriate customer service
    • Is dependable and reliable with meeting goals, deadlines and other performance expectations
    • Is able to relate effectively with others and understands how to approach or respond to individuals based on their personal style

    Physical Demands:

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel, occasionally walk or stand and infrequently carry boxes/supplies of 10 lbs or less.
