Medical Oncologist

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Medical Oncologist to provide comprehensive care to patients diagnosed with cancer and related hematologic conditions. The Medical Oncologist will evaluate patients, develop individualized treatment plans, administer and manage systemic cancer therapies, monitor treatment response, and collaborate with multidisciplinary oncology teams to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and diagnose patients with suspected or confirmed malignancies.

  • Review medical history, pathology reports, laboratory results, imaging studies, and molecular/genomic testing.

  • Develop individualized, evidence-based cancer treatment plans.

  • Manage systemic cancer therapies, including:

    • Chemotherapy

    • Immunotherapy

    • Targeted therapy

    • Hormonal therapy

    • Other approved systemic anticancer treatments

  • Determine appropriate treatment regimens, dosages, schedules, and duration of therapy.

  • Monitor patients throughout treatment and assess therapeutic response.

  • Identify and manage chemotherapy and immunotherapy-related adverse effects and complications.

  • Provide ongoing care for patients with solid tumors, including breast, lung, gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and other cancers.

  • Order and interpret laboratory tests, imaging studies, tumor markers, pathology findings, and other diagnostic investigations.

  • Coordinate cancer staging and treatment planning.

  • Participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and case conferences.

  • Collaborate with surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, radiologists, pharmacists, nurses, and other specialists.

  • Discuss diagnosis, prognosis, treatment options, risks, benefits, and expected outcomes with patients and their families.

  • Provide survivorship planning and long-term cancer surveillance.

  • Coordinate palliative and supportive care for patients with advanced cancer when appropriate.

  • Evaluate patients for eligibility for clinical trials and emerging cancer therapies.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EMR/EHR system.

  • Participate in inpatient consultations and on-call coverage when required.

  • Follow oncology treatment protocols, patient-safety standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.

  • Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency program.

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Oncology or Hematology/Oncology fellowship.

  • Current and unrestricted medical license to practice in the applicable state.

  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Medical Oncology.

  • Current BLS certification; ACLS may be required depending on the clinical setting.

  • Valid DEA registration when required for prescribing medications.

Required Experience

  • Clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

  • Experience managing systemic anticancer therapies.

  • Strong knowledge of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and hormonal therapy.

  • Experience managing treatment-related toxicities and complications.

  • Knowledge of cancer staging, treatment guidelines, and surveillance protocols.

  • Experience interpreting pathology, imaging, laboratory, and molecular testing results.

  • Proficiency with EMR/EHR documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience practicing as a Medical Oncologist.

  • Board certification in Medical Oncology or Hematology/Oncology.

  • Experience in hospital-based, outpatient, or comprehensive cancer center settings.

  • Experience participating in multidisciplinary tumor boards.

  • Experience with clinical trials and precision oncology is preferred.

  • Familiarity with current NCCN and evidence-based oncology treatment guidelines.

  • Strong communication, clinical decision-making, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills.
