VCU Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center’s Department ofRadiation Oncology is a highly integrated department, reflective of thediscipline at large. Our faculty arecommitted to providing exceptional, compassionate patient care, conducting leading-edgeresearch, and educating emerging radiation oncologists, medical physicists, anddosimetrists to contribute to the ever-evolving field of radiation oncology.
The mission of the Medical Physics division is toprovide exemplary radiation therapy to patients through high-quality clinicalservices and advanced technologies, investigation and implementation ofimproved treatment planning and delivery methods, research programs designed toimprove the efficiency and efficacy of radiation therapy, and clinical trialsto assess the clinical advantages of radiation therapy treatmentmodalities. Massey CCC both develops andparticipates in study protocols at the local, regional, and nationallevels. Additionally, the division ofMedical Physics is improving cancer care locally and nationally throughcomprehensive undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate educationalprograms. Chief Purpose of this position:
The Department of Radiation Oncology at VirginiaCommonwealth University Health System has an immediate opening for atherapeutic medical physicist (TMP). Thisis a clinical medical physicist position based primarily at the AdultOutpatient Pavilion (AOP) (https://www.vcuhealth.org/locations/adult-outpatient-pavilion/),which is the main facility of the Department of Radiation Oncology at VirginiaCommonwealth University Medical Center. The successful candidate will provide clinical radiation therapyservices using state-of-the-art radiotherapy that includes: IMRT, VMAT, SBRT,SRS, IGRT, and LDR and HDR brachytherapy programs. The individual hired into this position willserve principally as a clinical physicist at the AOP site and will also havethe opportunity to participate in dynamic clinical research programs at ournearby satellites.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching – The faculty physicist is expected to participate in teaching radiationoncology (medical and physics residents), and/or medical physics graduatestudents.
Research – The faculty physicist is expected to participate in clinically-oriented research.
Service – The faculty physicist will serve ondepartmental, School of Medicine, and/or University committees as necessary, aswell as in a professional capacity in their field (i.e. reviewer, conferenceorganizer, etc.).
Other/Administrative – A percentage of time and effort will be devoted to academic service-related activities fostering professional growth and other such assignments.
