Medical Record Review Coordinator

The Medical Record Review Coordinator is responsible for establishing and carrying out processes and reporting methodologies to provide accurate and concise medical record review data and information via objective, statistical measurements for the purpose of determining donor potential; assessing and improving Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) and hospital performance; and maintaining regulatory compliance. The Medical Record Review Coordinator gathers and reports data to support quality improvement priorities, ongoing performance measurement, and industry reporting requirements.

  • Coordinates and conducts retrospective medical record reviews of deaths in donation service area hospitals and reports findings on a regular basis to internal partners
  • Uses data and information collected through the donor referral and medical record review processes to assess organ donor potential, to identify missed opportunities for donation, and to evaluate the effectiveness of referral processes; thereby supporting continuous improvement efforts and organizational growth
  • Ensures accurate and timely data collection, data entry, and data analysis related to medical record review, donor potential, and regulatory reporting requirements
  • Collects, analyzes, maintains, and reports medical record review data and information from individual hospitals within established timelines and as needed to Donor Program Engagement personnel, Donor Alliance Leadership, and other teams and committees to support performance improvement
  • Gathers and documents information for periodic data reports related to performance and quality to Donor Alliance Leadership and regulatory and accreditation organizations (i.e. HRSA, OPTN, SRTR, AOPO) within established timeframes.
  • Acts as a resource for the medical record review process, data collection, and data interpretation, providing ongoing communication and training as needed with key staff

Qualifications & Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (nursing, applied health) and/or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum of two years' experience in a clinical or hospital setting required.
  • Knowledge of diseases and medical terminology is required. Ability to evaluate medical records to determine the presence or absence of brain function, organ function, infectious disease processes, autoimmune disease, communicable disease agents, and certain cancers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel with the ability to efficiently sort, organize, manipulate, and analyze data to support daily operations and decision-making.
