The Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller MHC is looking for a talented Medical Records Clerk

The Dr. Solomon Carter Fuller Mental Health Center, (Fuller) 60 bed inpatient psychiatric facility provides comprehensive, information and timely forensic evaluations for individuals to determine pre-trial competency and or criminal responsibility. We also provide quality, integrated care to support an individual's recovery process through ongoing psychiatric treatment and care.

Please note: This position is 40 hours per week 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Days off are Saturday and Sunday.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):

  • Health Information management Department Medical Records Correspondence Coordinator /General Liaison for Medical Record Inquiries and Information.
  • Responsible for supervision of off-site medical transcription provider and medical record completion. File room supervision, maintenance of a patient database, release of medical record information, liaison for court appointed attorneys seeking access to medical record information, and processing subpoenas and court orders for medical record information
  • Maintenance of a patient database, supervisory responsibility for processing admission/discharge reports.
  • Responsibility to perform payroll/time sheet functions where and when applicable due to the absence of the Director of HIMS.
  • Health Information management Department general liaison for facility staff, other health care providers, visitors and patients requesting medical record information.
  • Responsible for assignment of medical record numbers and maintenance of a permanent Number register.
  • Performs inventory of Health Information management record supplies and office supplies and functions as liaison to the Center's Director or Operations when ordering supplies and ensuring the maintenance of Department equipment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of the English Language including spelling, word meaning and word usage
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Capacity to assemble items of information in accordance with established procedures.
  • Ability to work accurately with names, numbers, codes and /or symbols
  • Ability to file material in accordance with standard filing procedures
  • Ability to Maintain accurate records
  • Ability to communicate effectively in written expression

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency

Applicants must have at least (A) three years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in office work, or (B) and equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below:
