    Description

    SUMMARY

    The Medical Records Clerk is responsible for maintaining and organizing patient medical records in a healthcare facility. Ensures accuracy, confidentiality, and accessibility of medical records, while adhering to legal and regulatory requirements. Assists healthcare professionals in retrieving and updating patient information as needed.

    ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Must be able to obtain and maintain the required customer clearance for access to systems, facilities, equipment and property.

    KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Maintains and updates patient medical records in an organized and efficient manner. Ensures the accuracy and completeness of medical records by verifying and entering patient information, such as demographics, medical history, and test results.
    • Reviews medical records for compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, including patient privacy and confidentiality. Retrieves and delivers medical records to healthcare professionals upon request, ensuring timely access to patient information.
    • Assists in the coding and indexing of medical records to facilitate accurate billing and insurance claims processing. Collaborates with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation of patient care and treatment plans.
    • Responds to inquiries from healthcare professionals, patients, and authorized individuals regarding medical records and information. Maintains electronic and paper filing systems, ensuring proper organization and storage of medical records.
    • Follows established protocols for record retention, disposal, and archiving, in compliance with legal and regulatory guidelines.
    • Other duties may be assigned from time to time.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of one to three (1-3) years relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education/experience.

    Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Regularly required to sit. Regularly required use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms to handle objects and operate tools, computer, and/or controls. Required to speak and hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  Exposed to general office noise with computers printers and light traffic.
