Position Information: This position may be full-time in person, hybrid, or remote, based on the department manager’s decision.

Join our team and help support accurate, compliant patient records and reimbursement. Northern Cochise Community Hospital is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Records Coder to assign and review diagnosis and procedure codes for hospital records. This position works closely with Health Information Management leadership to promote complete documentation, coding accuracy, and compliance with payer, government, and state requirements.

What You’ll Do

·         Perform diagnostic and procedural coding for outpatient and emergency room services.

·         Code inpatient admission records as assigned.

·         Review medical records for complete and compliant documentation.

·         Apply appropriate, supported ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS classifications.

·         Review charges, units, modifiers, and medical-necessity edits for accuracy.

·         Research coding or documentation issues and communicate findings to the HIM Manager.

·         Assist with coding corrections during audits and state reviews.

·         Participate in departmental meetings and complete other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications

          Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential; hospital-focused medical coding certification strongly preferred.

·         High school diploma or equivalent.

·         Experience working with computers and electronic records.

·         Ability to work independently with limited supervision while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.

·         Strong written, verbal, and customer-service skills.

·         Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

·         Two years of experience in a medical records setting.

·         Hospital coding experience.

·         Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, clinical disease processes, and pharmacology.
